Sweet Date With Lee Joon Gi In The White Day!
LJG made a drama after a long absence, cut a new single album and started to meet fans at various places, however his visit to Taiwan did not come.For those who miss LJG, Trendy has made a special visit to Seoul, to have an exclusive interview with this handsome and cute superstar to console the pain of lovesickness.
It has been 3 years since Trendy last met LJG, perhaps because of the long time, there was a sense of unfamiliarity.Battle seasoned Trendy team felt a little edgy and anxious before the interview but all the anxiety and discomfort dispersed after high spirit LJG appeared at the studio. Not only did the warm and friendly LJG make one forget about 0C of Seoul, his smile and the occasional cute gestures of his melted the 3 years away.
A full schedule of non-stop working since discharge
Since it has been a long time, the opening of LJG interview begins from the moment he discharged to recent activities!
‘I took up AATM after discharge, returning to the tv screen, following that had fan meets in Korea, Japan and China. Next was album recording, to present a whole new appearance and good music to all as gift, I worked hard in the preparation.(laugh) Single album was released not too long ago, so was Taiwan. These have been what I was busy at earlier on.’LJG continued with a smile, ‘As of late…with the anticipation of fans [Actor LJG] next project, I’m making my selection for the next work, and will do my utmost to have it done asap for your viewing pleasure.’
Actor is a public service occupation after all
Talking about AATM, one can’t help but curious to know why LJG selected such a drama as a comeback work?
LJG: ‘If I had not considered my fans, I would no doubt select a modern drama. (laugh) Coming back after 2 years of army, there’s a long absence, moreover, actor is a public service occupation after all! Be it the anticipation of fans , or the general public who has not seen LJG for 2 years, I would like to get closer to them in a variety of ways. I think there is no better choice of stage than the rich, multi -element period drama. I happened to receive the script of AATM then, I found it fresh after reading it, in addition, there are many opportunities in the drama for the actor to give full play and display different appearances, and I looked forward to the romantic love and fantasy that the drama could create. Most importantly, it’s a light hearted drama for all audience. Hence~ this can be considered a ‘greeting to all after discharge’ kind of announcement!’ He replied with a serious face, blinked and recovered with a big smile.
To listen to a different LJG
He could not stop talking about the latest music work which was released in Taiwan in February ‘Case by Case’ once the topic started, LJG’s eyes sparkled, and those around could not help but gave full concentration to what he had to say about this special single album
Various different music genre were tried during the initial planning of it. I took part it in as I wanted it to be something fresh and interesting for all, I wanted to something that is not commonly heard. So…I was thinking of which producers to work with so that we could have the most interesting and creative music,’ LJG paused before continuing. ‘I thought about Mr Seo Taiji whom I respected since young, through acquaintance, I got to know Mr Kim Jong Hyo who had worked with Mr Seo Taiji . I believed he could make interesting music, so I approached him for help. The recording had not been smooth, frankly, lol~ because there were too many different genres that I had never tried before, I was unable to interpret each of them perfectly, to turn those songs into my style was not an easy task so I had to learn as I record. Although it was tough, the recording process became a happy one by the mere thought of fans getting to know a new me after listening to the album. (laugh) There was much to learn, but I got to challenge a new frontier, not only a new sensation for fans, it gave me whole new stimulation from a never before recording experience. Each song in the album is difficult to interpret, none is an easy song. What should be the way of singing? How should it be recorded? Would I be able to meet the producer’s requirement? I felt pressurized. Also because of this, I could not give up on each of the songs in the album.’
A song he couldn’t let go …always on his mind as he slept
Knowing it’s a difficult choice, we would still like LJG to choose a special song in the album
LJG thought hard, ‘If I have to choose a unique piece of music…..’Distortion’? Oh~ it’s actually ‘Lost Frame’, it’s original name is ‘Distortion’. Its name was changed after it was included in the album. In fact, this song does not go with the general atmosphere of the album, it gives an intense feeling. The staff had originally opposed to include it in the album, they worried it could stress up the listeners. They felt that no one would look forward to an actor singing such a song with an intensive style. So, we almost gave it a miss. However, this song was always on mind before I slept during the recording period, I wanted so much to challenge it, after all, being able to sing such a song, it would be a surprise to fans! (laugh) I was full of anticipation, unable to give up at all, and it remained on my mind as I slept, it’s true,’ he laughed and continued. ‘ Subsequently, I did my recording of the song with the thought of giving it a shot even if it’s not going to be included. With a special emotion, and a coarse roar like from the throat singing method, my voice could hardly last 10 seconds, it was tedious. However, at my perseverance , decision was made to include it in the album, this has brought me satisfaction. From the reaction by far, it’s either ‘like’ or ‘unique', I’m very contented! It’s also a sense of accomplishment!’
I can only celebrate White Day if I have a girlfriend
LJG having acted in unforgettable affectionate characters, the song 'Tonight' in the album, it's a sweet love song to listen again & again, we had a collection of White Day theme photoshoot with him for Trendy.
However, how would LJG spend his White Day this year?
Upon hearing this, he was quick to exclaim cutely,' I can only celebrate White Day if I have a girlfriend! Didn't I just inquire what date is White Day on?'
He expressed with a helpless expression on the face,' I think I will spend it as usual, express my blessings to my fans through the internet, wishing them a beautiful White Day! There are those among them with boyfriends, it will be a wonderful holiday for them, but I have no girlfriend (pouted), to me, White Day or Valentine's Day is just....an ordinary day, I will be as usual, watching television or movies at home.Since I have no girlfriend( another emphasis), White Day, Valentine's Day or Pepero Day, in my opinion, are just days created by entrepreneurs to make money.'
We were bemused by LJG's extreme honest and sincere answer, his frustration melted into laughter. While we were on the theme of Valentine's Day, we asked LJG about the ideal girl for him, how would she be like?
LJG, 'I'm often asked about this, but the answer to this is always different! In fact,even if I meet my ideal girl, it still have to depend on the actual dating process. Hence, I would rather find a mutual understanding type, to tolerate & forgive each other's shortcomings, a girl with such character. I still have no idea who she will be, I'll let fate decide.'
He burst into laughter all of a sudden,' It's unusual~ fans from Chinese region have been urging me to get married, to fall in love.Korean fans tell me to date secretly, they will feign unawareness.However, Japanese fans are a firmly 'No'. Fans from different regions have different degree of acceptance, what should I do?' he shrugged and spread his palm in exasperation.
Korea is a fabulous place indeed!
Although fans from different places may have varied opinions on his love life, but their love for LJG is the same. Talking about fans, LJG expressed his wish to introduce places of interest or food to fans, but he himself has not much free time from work to enjoy them....
'Much as I want to give a good introduction, but I have only visited the wonderful places for working purposes, I'm unable to do a good job with detailed introduction. There's many wonderful places to go, you must visit to experience them.Koreans are friendly people, there are many good soju, cultural performances, exhibitions, so on and so forth.Korea is a small country, but it is rich in content and full of energy. A country that can give you 24hours of fun.One can call for delivery anytime one feels like eating, 24 hours! Haha~~if visit often, you can enjoy to your heart's content, there's no need for my introduction.One can make many wonderful, happy and precious memories, Korea is such a fantastic country!'

LJG, 'I have always wanted to visit Taiwan, it's a pity that time does not permit the arrangement. Taiwan fans have been supporting me for long, giving me lots of support , I treasure them all, I have beautiful memories of Taiwan too, I want to meet you asap, to greet you in person. Actually there was a plan to hold a big scale FM but it was cancelled because something bad cropped up, it's my regret. I hope I can have a chance in future to hold a happy and enjoyable FM for Taiwan fans.'
