I'll be heading back to Japan in about a month and a half now. Its time to start planning my CD purchases. Because as always I plan on spending way too much money on CDs in Japan.
The must have CDs: (we'll order these from amazon.co.jp before we leave the UK.)
Mucc - kyutai
D'espairsray - reddemer
Buck-Tick - memento mori
Buck-Tick is one of my favorite bands and their last 2 albums have been some of their best.ever.fuck you if you disagree.
D'espairsray released 3 wonderful albums during 2008 and I have high hopes for the album.
Mucc on the other hand released 1 excellent single, sora to ito and 1 decent single, ageha. But I am afraid that they might try to sound too "American" on the album. I guess only time will tell.
CDs I want:
D and Merry's new albums.
Dir en grey - Umbr..whatever
D...I really want to like this band but the more time that passes, the more I want to punch Asagi in the face repeatedly. Birth was alright, but the instrumental version was better than the vocal version. That yami no kuni no Alice single or whatever the crap it was named seemed good when I heard it. But don't even talk about that turd of a piano ballad they just dropped on the world. Hopefully the non-single tracks will be good. On their last album, D took all the crappiest songs and made them singles.
I like Merry's two last singles, unlike everyone else. In fact the 15 minute long 激声 is close to being brilliant. The fact that they managed to get it released as a single is surprising. But I don't know if I can bring myself to buy a whole album by them.
The Dir en grey album got universally good reviews and most of the things said make it seem interesting, so I may get a copy of it, even though I hate them...for sucking so much when I saw them live...and for being overrated.
DVDs I want:
Something by Miyavi because I expect it would be fun to watch.
The dvd release of that SID show we went to last time we were in Japan just because the guitarist is freakin awesome live. I mean, he pulled out a nylon string guitar for a guitar solo. That is so much cooler than anything you have ever done. I probably won't get it though.
Other bands I want to revisit.
kagrra, kagerou, kiyoharu, kuroyume, sads
The first 2 bands have released a lot of music since the last time I listed to them. The last three...well, Kiyoharu's Medley album was so damn good I want to buy all of his back catalog that I don't already own.
Oh, and Kei from baroque/kannivalism has an album coming out soon, I liked that vesperbells single so I may check that out too. Speaking of which I should consider picking up a kannivalism cd since I liked baroque quite a bit when they still existed.
God, that was longer than I thought it would be...and its not a complete list. I didn't even mention all the bands I've never really listened to that I want to check out.
