I later read Embroideries & Chicken with Plums. Satrapi, Marjane: “Persepolis – The Story of a Childhood”, ISBN 0-375-71457-X. I am excited to continue the journey with Marji in Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return. The cover has an equally unhappy-looking girl on the front. Last week I read Persepolis and enjoyed it so i immediately read Persepolis 2. Forced by her parents to flee Iran in the face of the Iran-Iraq war, Marjane Satrapi picks up her story from Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood (read my review here) in Vienna where her parents have sent her. In this book, Satrapi continues the story of her life where her first story left off. This second volume of Marjane Satrapi's autobiographical tale focuses on her adolescence and young adulthood. But Persepolis is by far her best. There is a sequel, “Persepolis 2 – The Story of a Return”. Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood and Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return are a series of graphic novels by Marjane Satrapi. I started with Persepolis, Parts I & II (Part I – The Story of a Childhood & Part II – The Story of a Return). Having seen the movie already, i knew much of what to expect (but not all). Ahh, I see where your coming from. After being sent to Vienna to study, she tries to find her place in the world. Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return. Fave quote: "In life, you'll meet a lot of jerks. The story follows the author, Marjane Satrapi, as she illustrates parts of her life in oppressed and war torn Iran. Satrapi does an excellent job capturing her life growing up in Iran in these pages.
