Good afternoon everyone!
Very short blog today.
I was in the newspaper!
I am a teacher at Toyama University of International Studies.
Before my class, I host the English cafe.
In the English Cafe, students can come and talk for free, as well as enjoy free tea and coffee!
You can see me sitting in the back in this picture.
The students in this class are very hard working! I always enjoy talking with them.
Have a great day!
Hello everyone!
Lots of good things happened this week.
I'll talk about three of them today.
1. Lovely message in the post!
I will take a Japanese test on Sunday.
It's very difficult, so I don't think I will pass this time. (I don't mind, though!)
One of my students sent me a very lovely message in the post.
Thank you very much, M-san!
I'll try my best!
2. Students' fantastic drawing!
I had a company English lesson this week.
I asked the students to look at this picture for three minutes and try to remember lots of details.
Usually, I ask them some questions after that, like
・ How many suitcases are in the room?
・ Where is the iPod?
・ What are the women doing?
However, this week I asked for one student to try and draw the picture!
The other students gave him advice and information.
Without looking at the book at all, this was their picture;
I was really impressed! They drew a fantasic picture and remembered many details. They worked together to give each other hints and advice. I think they did a great job!
3. Great gift from a student!
One of my students and his wife are very interested in British culture. I've visited his beautiful British-style house before. Both of them are very knowledgable about the U.K. and I always enjoy talking with them about it. After my lesson with him on Wednesday, he presented me with a great surprise!
It's a cottage pie!
I don't have an oven, so I haven't made or eaten one for a long time.
It was really delicious! It reminded me of the kind of food my mother made in the U.K. Thank you very much, Mr and Mrs. M!
Here's another picture;
How lucky I was! What a wonderful week :)
Good morning everyone!
How are you today?
I'd like to introduce some work from my Pioneer students today.
They all have different objectives and goals, and we study different things together. Let's look at the work of three students today.
#1. News review
This student and I work through news articles together. We choose different and interesting articles every week. First of all, we read through the sentences and the student practices the pronunciation and checks the words she doesn't know. After that, we talk about the meaning and our ideas. It's a great way to learn new words and grammar in an interesting way. I do the same thing when I learn Japanese, too!
#2. Book summary
This student is aiming for Eiken Pre-1, but also has an interest in stories. Like with the newspaper, I always recommend reading and learning new words in context. As well as going through the test together, we usually spend about 10~15 minutes each lesson reading part of Northanger Abbey together. In a recent lesson, this student realized she was having trouble remembering what happened, so as homework she wrote a summary. It was a great way to review what she'd read! Reviewing things you've learned is a very good use of your study time.
#3. Diary
Finally, the third student is looking to improve her spoken English and also has the chance to use English in her job! Sometimes English-speaking customers come and she guides them around her workplace. Her fluency is getting much better and her nervousness toward speaking English to her customers is starting to disappear! She's making great progress and each week she writes about her progress in both Japanese and English.
I'm very proud of the hard work of all of my students!
All of them work hard both on their homework and in the lesson.
I'll introduce the work of some of my other students in another blog in the future!
Hi everyone!
Did you have a good week?
I got something in the post yesterday...
I'm a little nervous!
This test has 5 levels; N5, N4, N3, N2, and N1.
N5 is the easiest. N1 is the most difficult.
I passed N3 in December 2013.
I passed N2 in December 2014.
I failed N1 in December 2015!
I didn't try in December 2016.
I'm going to try again in July 2017!
The test is very difficult.
There is a lot of Japanese we don't use in our daily lives.
For example; 〜が早いか、〜べく、〜と言わんばかりに、and so on...
I hope I can pass!
