FIFA 2022 World Cup Qualifying In only a few months, the next FIFA World Cup for men will take place. In 2022, Qatar will host the first tournament to be held in the Middle East and the first to occur in November and December of a given year. Eight stadiums across Qatar's five towns of Lusall, Al Khor, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, and Doha will host the event.
The World Cup Draw was held on April 1, and as a result, we now have the complete group stage schedule, including timings and a timetable.
The World Cup knockout stage bracket has predetermined game times for each of the two teams who will advance from each group. Two slots in Group D and two spots in Group E were awarded to the victors of the two intercontinental playoffs, respectively. After winning the game on penalties over Peru, Australia was issued the first penalty. To claim the 32nd and last spot in Qatar 2022, Costa Rica defeated New Zealand 1-0 in the other intercontinental playoff.

How many teams are in the World Cup?

Before the field for the 2026 World Cup is enlarged to 48 teams, the Qatar 2022 Men's World Cup will include 32 teams. Since 1998, 32 teams have participated in the FIFA Men's World Cup.
The competition will include 31 other nations, in addition to the host country, Qatar, that advanced from regional qualifying rounds. It was planned how many countries from each region would be eligible:

Africa (CAF): 5

Asia AFC: 4 (plus 1 playoff qualifier)

European Union: 13

North, Central, and Caribbean America (CONCACAF): 3 (plus 1 playoff qualifier)

Oceania has one playoff qualification, per OFC.

South American CONMEBOL: 4 (plus 1 playoff qualifier)
In June 2022, two intercontinental playoff matches featuring the four playoff qualifiers from the list above were played, featuring one nation from each of four distinct regions. The outcome of these games, between North America and Oceania and Asia and South America, determined the final two World Cup qualifiers. North America against Oceania: The final ticket to Qatar was gained by Costa Rica, who placed fourth in North America, after defeating Oceania champion New Zealand 1-0 on June 14. The Ticos will compete against Germany, Spain, and Japan in Group E.
The final World Cup qualifying position for Europe was also decided in June. On June 5, Wales won the single-elimination playoff title by a score of 1-0 over Ukraine. (Wales and Ukraine defeated Austria and Scotland, respectively, to proceed to the final game.)
Ukraine requested that the last European qualifying round be shifted from its original March date to a June window due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
South America against Asia: Australia, who finished third in the Asian qualifying group, overcame Peru, who finished fifth in South America, in a shootout on June 13 to clinch a place in Qatar. The Socceroos, who are competing in their sixth straight World Cup, needed to defeat the United Arab Emirates 2-1 in an Asian confederation playoff in order to move on to the knockout stage against Peru.
