Snow Patrol’s is probably the saddest. Well it’s not exactly about the city, but it is called New York because the singer is calling out for his lover who is in New York, while he’s somewhere far away. The lyrics are heartbreaking, and the piano at the start of the song isn’t helping at all. The sadness multiplies by a million by the time the chorus sings “come on, come out, come here, come here.” I have heard this song on a couple of TV series and it really fits heavily emotional scenes, as it was used on a kissing scene in Grey’s Anatomy and a declaration of love in The Vampire Diaries. It is really a heavy, beautiful song that deserves to make more dramas heartbreaking.
