speech!
hahaha
「hello, i like your speech!!!」
Hello
Thank you for inviting me.
My name is Mana Yamaguchi.
I came from Tamagawa academy in Japan.
I am 18 and I am in year 12.
It has been over 3 weeks since I came here.
The days have past so quickly that I can't believe that I am going back to Japan this Saturday.
It feels like I came here just yesterday.
At this school I learnt heaps and was able to experience many different things.
As well as English, I also learnt ways to communicate with others and how to get along with people.
Making a speech like this in English is something I could never do in Japan.
The worry of trying to make friends in a country where everybody speaks a different language, the differences between the Japanese school life, and the culture differences were difficult, but at the same time all of these things were a great stimulation to me, as I will be going to university this year.
It also made me grow up.
I will never forget these experiences.
As I spent 12 years at Tamagawa, I never had the experience of fitting in a new environment.
This was a place where I could challenge myself.
By staying in a country with a different culture, I understood the differences between 2 countries, and I learnt to accept a different culture and discover new things.
I was able to find a new “me”.
I decided to go on an exchange to Australia with hope to “see a culture different to Japan with my own eyes, and experience it”.
I don’t know if I could achieve that goal myself. However, I could surely learn more than that, and I saw this for myself.
The reason why I could do this is because of all the people who always supported me .
I appreciate my host family.
They took me to many enjoyable places.
They gave me delicious food every day.
They also accepted me just like a real family.
I appreciate my host brother.
At the start when I heard my host is a boy, I was very worried.
However, he supported me in everything.
When I had trouble understanding something, he explained it to me clearly with a dictionary in one hand.
During my stay he made me happy.
He introduced me to all of his friends as I was a “new student”.
He also gave me opportunities to talk to them.
For 2 months he was always with me and I feel very sad that he will no longer be next to me.
He took care of me all day, and I feel sorry for making him do everything for me, but I am really, really grateful to him.
I appreciate my school friends.
At the start when I couldn’t go up to them and talk, they said hello to me smiling.
Their small word of greeting gave me a big relief.
They all patiently listened to my awkward English, and repeated themselves many times to me, who finds it hard to understand English.
They went out with me on the weekends.
Thanks to everyone, I found school life enjoyable.
Leaving everyone is very hard.
I also appreciate this school for accepting me.
I feel that without those wonderful people and the environment, I wouldn’t be standing here the way I am now.
I was mainly relying on my host family and my friends this time, and next time I would like to travel to many places and countries by myself and learn even more.
On my way I’d like to find what I want to do and challenge myself.
I think challenging things is the best way to improve myself.
I want to use this experience in Australia to challenge myself to do anything.
I hope that after I learn more new things, I can see you all again here.
I’d like to enjoy every moment for the next 4 days, and make more happy memories.
Thank you for listening.
