Alabama's Dee Milliner possibly the shutdown corner many teams covet
With the No. 5 overall pick, the Detroit Lions have a plethora of options.
But there's at least a small consensus Detroit's selection could come down to one of three guys: offensive tackle Eric Fisher, cornerback Dee Milliner or defensive end Ezekiel Ansah.
Cornerback has long been perceived a need for the Lions, and ESPN's Todd McShay pegged Milliner for Detroit in his first mock draft in December. "Milliner has the potential to be an immediate starter. He's not an elite cover corner but good enough to hold up in man coverage, and he is very good in zone. Milliner is also strong in run support, and simply a good allaround player," McShay said.
Mel Kiper doesn't think Milliner has an elite skillset, but that doesn't mean he can't be productive. The fact he'll likely go in the top 10 is just a product of the draft. Despite earlier reservations, Kiper suggested last week the Lions should consider trading up to No. 1 to guarantee a shot at Milliner. Kiper now believes Milliner fills Detroit's biggest need.
