私が初めて FreeBSD にトライしたのは WindowsNT 4.0 と Windows98 を使っていた頃でした。
Unix に興味があったのですが、当時は Sun Micro Systems の Solaris とかは
非常に高価だったと記憶しています。
そんな時、フリーの PC-Unix に関する書籍を 書店で見かけました。
インストール用 CD-ROM が付録として付いていました。
Unix コマンドを覚えながら 試行錯誤を繰り返すような。そんな状態でしたが
車で言う「ユーザー車検」のような感覚に、非常に魅力を感じました。
BSD系 O/S は Linux よりも 手作り感覚が強く 家庭内でホビーとして楽しむにはちょうど良いかも
知れません。
約10年くらいのブランクを経て、もう一度 FreeBSD (10.1-RELEASE) にチャレンジしてみることに
しました。
これらの記事は そんな私が書き記したメモです。
