さて、ヒギンズの言葉に触発されたイライザは、翌朝ゴテゴテに着飾ってヒギンズの家を訪れます。
「自分を立派なレディにしてくれ」と頼みますが、最初はすげない返事。
ところが、そこに居合わせたヒギンズの友人、ピッカリング大佐が、「上手くいったら、授業料は全額自分が払う」と言い出したので、ヒギンズも俄然やる気になります。
数日後、イライザの父親アルフレッドが、ヒギンズの家にやってきます。娘がヒギンズの囲い者にされたと勘違いして、金をせびりに来たわけです。
このオヤジ、なかなか一筋縄ではいかないしたたか者で,イライザから金をせびっては酒場に入り浸っているのですが、どこか憎めない所があります。映画ではスタンレイ・ハロウエイが演じ、いい味をを出していました。
で、このオヤジが例によって飲み代が払えずに酒場からつまみ出されたときに歌うのがこの
