すっかり自信をもったヒギンズとピカリングは、上流階級
の集まるアスコット競馬場でイライザをデビューさせること
を目論みます。
見違えるように美しく着飾ったイライザが競馬場のボックス
席に登場すると、一身に会場の注目を集めます。
しかし、話し方こそ上品でしたがその内容が下品な花売り娘
のままだったので、イライザの社交界デビューは散々な結果
に終わります。
ところで、このアスコット競馬場の初レースは婦人が被る奇
抜な帽子で有名ですが、今日はそのシーンを描いた
「アスコット・ガヴォット」をアップしてみました。
ところで、今年６月、300周年を迎えたアスコット競馬場で
も様々な帽子が登場しました。

Didn't they maintain an exhausting pace?
