This is Aya at the International Lounge on Nakano campus.
7月1日、中野キャンパスにて今年度第1回目の生け花ワークショップ
が開催されました。一葉式いけ花の先生方をお招きし、今回は「涼しげな夏」をテーマにお花を生けました。
Our first Ikebana Workshop for this year was held on July 1st at Nakano campus. We arranged fresh-cut flowers, featuring the theme of “cooling summer” with Ichiyo Ikebana staff.
ワークショップの前半は学生がお互いの自己紹介をし合ったり、生け花の基本をパワーポイントで見ながら
学んだりしました。後半は先生のデモンストレーションがあり、その後いよいよ実際にお花を生けます。生けている最中はみんなとても集中（没頭？）して真剣そのものでしたが、楽しい
という声も聞こえてきました。
First half of the workshop was spent participants introducing to each other and learning about basic of ikebana through watching a PowerPoint. They then watched the teacher demonstrating, and they tried ikebana themselves. Everyone was very engaged in creating his/her piece and having fun. 
参加した学生からの声は以下の通り。
・生け花というと畳の部屋で剣山に花を生けるというイメージだったが、今回の体験でもっと気軽に楽しめるものだとわかった。
・楽しかった。母国に帰ってもまた自分で生け花をやってみようと思う。
・花を切る、生けるという動作にとても集中している自分がいた。
Feedback from participants:
-I learned that ikebana is not done only in Japanese tatami room, using kenzan (special needle mat). It can be enjoyed more freely.
-It was fun. I would like to try it again when I go back to my home country.
-I found myself really focused on cutting and arranging flowers.
