５月２５日の記事、「ダニで学ぼう。 順天堂大学医学部2005年大問ⅡB」について、リスニングの課題を出しておきましたが、今日は、その解答を発表します。まだ、解いていない方は、そちらの記事をご覧になって、穴埋めのディクテーション問題を解いてから、次の解答、解説を読んでください。英単語、英熟語の意味については、慶應義塾大学医学部で入試の注釈に使われる、Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary を利用しています。では、ビデオを再掲します。【解答】(1)House dust mites are (あ microscopic ) creatures that ( い live ) in even the cleanest homes.(2)House dust mites are (relatives ) of spiders.(3)Here is the dust mite (magnified ) on a penny to give you an idea of their actual size.(4)It is the waste ( う particles) produced by live mites and the body (え fragments ) of dead mites that contain the actual allergy causing material responsible for house dust (お allergy).(5)Dust mites are ( photophobic ) living deep in pillows, mattresses, *upholstered furniture, carpets and other soft materials. (* 布などを張った)(6)Literally millions of mites may ( inhabit) a single bed. 【解説】(1)House dust mites are (あ microscopic ) creatures that ( い live ) in even the cleanest homes.Ans. (あ) microscopic :extremely small and difficult or impossible to see without a microscope 顕微鏡がないと見えないほど、非常に小さいとういう意味の形容詞です。Ans. (い） liveこれは、中学単語のliveです。次にin がきて、live in というよく見かける形になっています。これが聞き取れなかった受験生は、基本からリスニングの練習が必要です。文意は、「チリダニは、顕微鏡で見ないと見えないか、見るのが難しい、生物で、どんなにきれいな家にも住んでいます。」(2)House dust mites are (relatives ) of spiders.Ans. relativesrelative: a thing that belongs to the same group as something else文意は、「チリダニは、クモと近い仲間です。」(3)Here is the dust mite (magnified ) on a penny to give you an idea of their actual size.Ans. magnifiedmagnify: to make something look bigger than it really is, for example by using a lens or microscope 文意は、「ここに、１セント硬貨の上に拡大したチリダニがいます。実際の大きさがわかっていただけるでしょう。」(4)It is the waste ( う particles) produced by live mites and the body (え fragments ) of dead mites that contain the actual allergy causing material responsible for house dust (お allergy).Ans.(う)particlesparticle: a very small piece of something Ans.(え)fragmentsfragment: a small part of something that has broken off or comes from something larger: Ans.(お)allergya medical condition that causes you to react badly or feel ill / sick when you eat or touch a particular substance この(4)の文は、いわゆる、it...that...の強調構文になっています。気がつきましたか？（お）のallergy は直前にも出ていますね。アレルギーという日本語詞記発音には慣れていても、英語の発音には慣れていない皆さんも多いかなと思って、ちょっとヒント付きで出題してみました。どうでしたか？できましたか？文意は、「ハウスダストアレルギーを起こす原因となる、実際のアレルゲンを含んでいるのは、生きているチリダニが作る、排泄物の微粒子や、死んだチリダニの破片なのです。」(5)Dust mites are ( photophobic ) living deep in pillows, mattresses, *upholstered furniture, carpets and other soft materials. (* 布などを張った)Ans.: photophobicこの語は、Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary に項目がありません。この語は、（受験生レベルでは）覚えていなくてもよいはずです。なぜなら、photo- が何を意味するからは、受験生の皆さん、知っているのではないですか？ photograph 写真、photosynthesis 光合成とか。photo は光を表していますよね。そして、phobia です。これは、3月14日の当ブログ記事、「病名、症状を表す英単語 hydrophobia」で学習しました。phobia は、恐怖症、～を嫌う状態・性質、などの意味がありました。phobic は形容詞形でしたね。したがって、photo と phobic を組み合わせれば、「光を嫌う」という意味の形容詞だな、と推理できるはずです。文意は、「チリダニは、枕や、マットレス、布張りの家具、カーペットや、そのほかの柔らかい素材の中に深くもぐって住んでいる、光を嫌う生物なのです。(6)Literally millions of mites may ( inhabit) a single bed.
