I've been riding to work almost everyday for about a month and half now. I'm loving it. I feel stronger and I can control my breathing better when I am riding. Thanks to the hilly California terrain, I think I could probably concur pretty much anywhere in Ibaraki now. I can't wait to go back to Japan and ride!
Here is a better picture of my new bike. I love it. Sram system is working better than I thought; however, I think I still prefer the Shimano system with the separate lever for the up and down shifting.
Took a 17.19 mile ride today in a beautiful sunny day. I went out around 11:30 and it was getting really hot; however, I got my Pearl Izumi gears to keep me safe from the sun.
After all, it took me about a little bit longer than an hour to finish the ride. I feel really good and I think I will take the route again next time.
Here are some pictures to share!
I gotta admit that riding in United States is much easier than the Japan because of the dedicated bike lane on the major roads.
I've found the Japanese drivers are much more aware the situation on the road and they will leave some distance between you and the car, even if it means driving onto the other side of the traffic. People drive much faster here in US but the wider road allow the car and the cyclist to maintain the safe distance. I enjoy riding in US right now since there are so many rider like me out there on the road. I hardly see anyone ride road bikes in Ibaraki. Hopefully someday I will meet someone to ride with me in Japan.
