The Star Thief Andrea Denoit
This is magical book to me so much that I wanted to read other books written by the same writer, but unfortenately I could not find any. This made me even more wondered about how this book came about. I have come across this book when I was searching for Arnold Nobel’s books.
Star Thief wanted to steal the stars so one day he takes a ladder from home, catch all the stars in the sky, put them in a sack and hide them in the basement.
My son liked the scene when the thief was caught by a young man in yellow jacket hiding behind the moon when he attempted to steal the moon.
My favourite was the last scene. The thief was tasked to put all the stars back to the sky but he could not; the stars kept on falling down to the ground. But a child made a wish and a star raised to the sky, and so all people in the town made a wish and all the starts went back to the sky.
The child says that the thief has not made a wish yet, however one of the people in the town says it is ok for the thief not to make a wish and others agreed.
The thief replies, it is ok, "it was my wish to touch the star and I did. "
I love the story so much that I wish this story is added to World Masterpiece; Classic stories for children.
「星どろぼう」は本当に素敵な本だと思い、この作家の本をもっと読みたいと思って探しましたが、見つけられませんでした。
それでいっそうこの本がどのように生まれたのだろうと考えをめぐらせずにはいられませんでした。アーノルド・ローベルの本を色々と探していた時に、この本に出逢ったのです。
星どろぼうは星をぬすみたくて、ついに家から梯子を持ってきてよじ登り、空の星を全て袋に入れて持って帰ると、家の地下室に隠してしまいます。
私の息子は、星どろぼうが星を盗んだ後にさらに月を盗みに行って、月の後ろに隠れていた黄色のジャケットを着た若い男の人に捕まえられるシーンが好きでした。セリフが愉快だったようでした。
私の好きな場面は最後の場面です。どろぼうは村の人から星を全て空に戻すように言われます。でもどろぼうが星を空に戻そうとしても星は地面に落ちてしまいます。すると一つの星がすーっと空へむかいました。子供が願い事をしたので、星は空に戻ったのでした。そして村のひとたちは次々に全員が願い事をし、星は全て空へと戻っていきました。
最後に子供が、「どろぼうはまだねがいごとをしていない」といいます。ところが、村の人が「どろぼうはお願い事をしなくていいのだ」といい、他の村人もそうだといいます。
そしてどろぼうは、自分の願いごとは星をさわることだった、そしてほんとうにさわれたんだといいます。
これは世界の名作童話集に入っても良いのではと思うくらい好きです。
