Budgeting
Hi All
Sorry for my late entry here however things have been a little hectic!
The last time I wrote this blog I covered the idea of budgeting 10% of everything you earn.
I also emphasised that this 10%
saving must go towards an asset. For those of you not convinced about the 10% saving I asked you this question:
"Would you like $1m today or 1 cent (0.01) doubling everyday for one month"?
Well here is the answer and please do not forget the imapct of compounding interest"
If you decided on the $1m on day one you would have $1m.
If you decided on the 1 cent (0.01) doubling everyday for one month you would have approximately $5.3m. That is a
cost of approximately $4.3m that you would have lost. Now while maybe simplfied a little there is no doubt that the
earlier you start saving/investing the more you will have working for you later in life.
Still not convinced? Think about this! There is a simple mathematical equation to calculate the doubling of an asset at a given interest rate over a period of time. It is called the Rule of 72.
If you have $1000 saved earning 10% then this rule suggests your investment will double in 7.2 years.
That is 72/rate of return (interest rate72/10).
Does not sound very much in terms of $1,000 doubling to $2,000 in 7.2 years however please picture (yes picture this
in your mind) in another 7.2 years you have $4,000 and another you have $8,000 then $16,000 then $3,2000 then
$64,000. What is after $64,000 you must think and etc etc etc.
Whilst this might be very simple it is designed to make you think about long term saving. Not just in a bank but in
property, shares and other investments.
Again everyone I hope this blog gives you the most important asset of all:
Your abililty to think and question!!!
Bye for now your wealth friend

Budgeting
Hi Wealth Seekers
I must confess that the following ideas on budgeting are not mine but nevertheless are extremely useful. An
interesting book called, "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Scott advocates that with budgeting you must do toTWO things to be successful.
Firstly, you must budget 10% of all earnings towards SAVINGS. What does this mean? If you earn $40,000 per year
you must save $4,000 per year and these savings can only be used to purchase assets. An asset is something that
increases in value over time. This does not mean holidays, nightclubs and clothes for example. Why only10%?
It is like deciding that you are going to run a marathon everyday. Can you do this? Would you have any other life?
Think about this! What impact over the course of a year would cutting back on 10% of your spending have on your
lifestyle? Try to picture what you may have spent this 10% on. Picture your lifestyle by increasing you savings to
50% (doing the marathon). What things would you have to cut out?
Secondly and absolutely the most important aspect to this. When budgeting this 10% you MUST pay yourself first.
That 10% has to go to saving FIRST and you live off the remainding 90%. You do not pay this expense and that
expense then what is left you save. All lifestyle expenses must fit into 90% of your income.
If you think this is too simplistic please ponder this for a moment. Think back to your first pay check. Create an image
in your mind of saving the 10%. Now project this image of saving 10% of all earned over 10, 20 or even 30 years.
Do not forget compounding interest. What does this mean? I will put this to you:
Would you like $1 million dollars today or 1 cent ($0.01) doubling everyday for 30 days?
I will answer this next week for you.
Always keep thinking!

Wealthy vs Being Rich
Hi Future Wealthy People
Whilst many definitions of these two words, wealth and rich, exist in various
dictionaries there seems to be no definitive difference made between them. For the purpose of this blog I am going to present my distinction via an example. I perceive
being "Rich" as a person or a company who has lots of money or assets but little
else.
The rich person is so attached to their money or riches that upon bankruptcy they might consider they have lost everything. Does the loss of all their riches take away their family, wife or husband, caring for other people or the environment? Think of a large corporation that is only concerned with future profits and not sustainability of resources and the environment. They are still, in my mind, rich even when becoming "green" if it is just for more profit and not a conscious heartfelt desire to improve
the environment.
So what is wealthy? A wealthy person can be rich or poor. Whilst the Dalai Lama or Mother Teresa (whilst alive) may have little money or riches no one I believe, can
dispute how wealthy they are. Does a movie star with lots riches seem wealthy to
you when so much time is spent in rehabilitation clinics to overcome their lifestyle
that is designed to remove them from their lifestyle.
So does money (riches) bring true happiness (wealth)? A person can have money
but be extremely happy in life and happy with them self. A rich person can be
extremely unhappy in life if money is all they care about.
I hope this makes sense to you.
Now I know we need money to live and sometimes a little more to do the things we want to do in life. So my future blogs will deal with this very issue.
I will look at the secrets to budgeting, the psychology of investing and trading
the Forex market.
Why read my blogs in the future?
Because despite many years as an economics and business management teacher
and a self employed Financial Planner (investment adviser for 9 years) I, personally
am on a quest for being wealthy.
