前回のブログの通り、上位20名に入れませんでした。
というわけで、今回は反省も兼ねて訳文の違いを確認してみました。

【総評②】
まだまだ、上位20名への道のりは遠いですね、、、
意訳したつもりが作文になっていたり、誤訳があったり、、、
まずは、文法などの基本事項を抑える事 から始めようと思います。
【 課題文 】
① Have you ever wondered if your cat’s personality is shaped by the color of its fur?
② Black cats have very affectionate and playful personalities,
even though many cultures have negative stereotypes of them.
③ Orange cats are often thought of as being sweet and loving,
④ while white cats are considered pure and good natured but more cautious.
⑤ There is some evidence to suggest that the color of your cat's coat may influence their personality and behavior.
⑥ However, the reality is that your cat’s age, sterilization and socialization history are the true creators of their personality.

【Sentence １】
① Have [you] ever wondered if [your cat’s personality] is shaped by [the color] (of its fur)?
１．愛猫の性格は毛色が決定づけるなんて、考えたことがありますか？
２．うちの猫の性格って毛の色から来ているのかな、なんて思ったことはありませんか？
３．猫と暮らしていて、飼い猫の個性が毛色によって異なるのでは、と疑問に思ったことはありませんか？
うーん、最初から躓いてしまいました。
正確に訳さないといけないですね。 意訳したはずが、作文になってしまったようです。

be shaped by ～ ～が決定づける
【Sentence ２】
② [Black cats] have <very> (affectionate) and (playful) [personalities], even though [many cultures] have (negative) [stereotypes] (of them).
１．黒猫は多くの文化でマイナスのイメージを持たれていますが、本当はとても人懐っこくて遊び好きな性格です。
２．黒猫はとても愛情深くて、遊ぶことが大好きです。多くの文化圏で見られるマイナスな固定観念とは、対照的ですね。
３．不吉な象徴として描かれることも多いですが、黒猫はとても愛情深く / 無邪気です。
even though 以下の訳し方で印象が変わりますね。
(´・ω・｀)))さんの訳は面白いです。
「negative stereotypes」の訳を後半に持ってきて、「対照的ですね」を最後につけることで、
猫の性格がより強調されてるように感じました。

１．茶トラ猫は甘えん坊で愛らしい印象を持たれることが多いようです。
２．茶色の猫は、優しくて / 思いやりがあるとよく言われます。
３．一方、茶トラ猫は、優しくて / 人懐っこいです。
ここは、参考例の表現が自然ですね。
私の訳では、「be often thought of as」のニュアンスが消えていました😢

１．また白猫は純粋で / 素直ですが警戒心が強い、と考えられています。
２．一方、白い猫は無邪気で / 温厚だけれども、警戒心が強いのだとか。
３．白猫は恥ずかしがり屋さんで / 大人しく、ちょっぴり警戒心が強いです。
(´・ω・｀)))さんは「be considered」を 「～のだとか」と訳しており、憶測を上手く言い換えていますね。

１．猫の毛色が性格や行動に影響する可能性を示す調査結果も複数あります。
２．いくつかの調査結果によると、猫の毛色は性格や行動に影響している可能性があるようです。
３．猫の性格や生態の傾向が毛色によって異なると言われることもありますが、
レーティング作業で200文ほど読みましたが、この部分の訳は結構バラバラでした。
「１．参考例」 のように素直に訳している方は、 意外と少なかった気がします。
私の訳は、「evidence」が消えてしまい本来の意味が弱まってしまいました。
【Sentence ６】
⑥ However, [the reality] is that your cat’s [age], [sterilization] and [socialization history] are [the (true) creators] (of their personality).
１．とはいえ実際は、愛猫の年齢、去勢・避妊手術の有無、どのように社会化してきたかが性格を形成する重要な要素となります。
２．しかし、実際には、猫の年齢や去勢・避妊手術歴、社交経験が、性格をつくっている本当の要因なのです。
３．実際は、猫の年齢・不妊治療歴や社会的な歩みが猫の個性を形作るのです。
私の訳では、SVC構文の「C」にあたる「the true creators」が消えてしまった。
また、「sterilization」を「不妊治療歴」と誤訳、致命的なミスを犯してしまいました！！
