（21）The first year, my teacher told to sit next to Susan and to ask Susan anything, so I walked home with Susan from the kindergarten of Utah.

（24）Susan said, “A boy who appeared in Lassie Come- Home, was actually a short-haired girl. That's me.”
スーザンが「名犬ラッシーに出演していた男の子は、 本当は短髪の女の子だったのよ。あれは私よ」と言っ た。
（25）One day Susan sneaked into an apartment elsewhere, so I asked "Can I enter?"
ある日、スーザンは他所のアパートメントに忍び込んだ ので、 私が「入ってもいいの？」と聞いた。
（26）Susan quietly stripped off the edge of the wallpaper on the wall of the stairs, but I pulled the edge and peeled the wallpaper off with a tearing sound.
スーザンがそっと階段の壁の壁紙の端を剥がしてみせた のに、私は端を引っ張って、バリッと壁紙を剥がした。
（27）Susan ran away and said, "I flipped through the edges little by little every day, but we'll be spotted if you peeled it off so boldly."
スーザンは逃げながら「毎日、私は端を少しずつ
めくって行ったのに、そんなに大胆に剥がせば、
ばれるわよ」と言った。
（28）Because the wallpaper repairs the surface beautifully, if you peel it off, you are shown up for what you are.
壁紙は表面を美しく繕うものだから、それを剥がしてし まえば、本性が現れる。
（29）Again the next day I was crazy about peeling off the wallpaper and couldn't stop. Only I was found by a dweller.
翌日また、私は夢中で壁紙を剥がして、止まらなくなっ た。私だけ住人に見つかった。
（30）Once again I went to apologize with my parents. As a punishment, my long hair was cut into a bob.
今一度、私は両親と謝りに行った。罰として、長い髪を おかっぱに切られた。
