do you know chinese vampires? in English we call them Jiang Shi. you know, the vampires that just kinda jump around, with their hands outstretched infront of them?? they're really freaky.
but I really like them. ![]()
but do you know HOW these vampires evolved??
do you know where they come from?
I read that if a family didn't have enough money
to transport someone back to their home town
, they would ask a Tao priest
to teach the deceased to hop on their own feet
back to their hometown for a burial
. It was particularly popular in Xiangxi, due to many people leaving their hometown to work in the city.
When they passed away, they were transportated sometimes very long distances using two bamboo rods, attatched to their arms only, so the dead appeared to be standing upright
, with their arms stretched infront of them. When the bamboo rods bounced up
and down
, the corpses looked like they were jumping. hence the chinese vampire. ![]()
I grew up with Latvian, or maybe simpy European beliefs:
12 midnight was the witching hour. ![]()
If a knife fell on the floor, it pointed the direction that danger would come from.
If a fork fell to the floor, the tongs pointed the direction a friend would come from.
Kill a spider, three years bad luck.
Break a mirror, ten years bad luck. ![]()
To ward off bad luck, you throw salt over your left shoulders three times and then turn clockwise three times.
Always envision yourself surrounded in white light
before you sleep
, or some bad spirit may take over your body.

because I was afraid he would suddenly turn vampire. ![]()
