Michigans Dingell to become longest-serv

Come next Friday, June 7, that's how long Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., will have served in the U.S. Congressbreaking the record set by the late Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., for longest-serving American lawmaker.

Dingell first took the oath of office in 1955.

In a rare truce amid partisan warfare, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of Calififornia will celebrate the milestone on June 13 in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol.

Cake? Sparklers? Speeches? "Additional details regarding the celebration will be announced closer to the date of the event," according to a statement from Boehner's office.
