ひとつまえの記事「SONG TO SOUL - 永遠の一曲 -「クリムゾンキングの宮殿」の映像より」で、動いているピート・シンフィールドを初めて見たとかを書きましたが、それについてのコメントをいただいたのがきっかけで（佐保山遊山会 山野さん、こうすけさん。コメント欄9, 13, 17, 19番目）、若き日のピートの曲が聴きたくなってきました。
それで、軽くサーチしていたら、うれしいことにライブ映像を見つけることができました。
キング・クリムゾン初期の作詞家として知られているひとですが、バラードを歌う彼も、繊細なロマンティストという感じで、すてきなのです。
その昔わたしが初めて見たピート・シンフィールドの姿（動いてないピート）。
いずれもKing Crimsonの3rdアルバム『Lizard』(1970)ブックレットに掲載されているものです。

シー・ゴートの詩
シー・ゴートは鏡と煌めく涙の雫を通じ 水瓶座の神代文字を投げ放つが
人の口先より這いいでるは 杏子の甘言 海賊の戯言ばかり
マイダス王の聖油にてその目を清め見れば 事はあきらかであろうに
アラディンのランプは赫く輝き丹薬を変質させゆく
人々の魂を占める甘美な底なしの欠落へと
「この声が聞こえぬか」とシー・ゴートは歌う「意味なき戯言には倦怠した」
「あきらかであり喫緊であろうに」「我らは打ち克ち行かねばならぬ
狂人のたわごとに とりとめなき行いに
降り続く雨の日々の如く湧きいずる苦悩に！」
シー・ゴートは渡り鳥の進路を読み 砂上に書きつけるが
行く手を指すその掌の間を 秋の収穫の麦の 黄金の滝は落ちゆく
その指は決断により硬直しつつも 尚も楽隊を手招きし
「全速前進マーチ」を奏でさせ 何たる不条理か
空疎なる言葉にてこの世界を聾せんとする
｢旗幟鮮明にせよ｣とシー・ゴートは歌う「果てしなき夜はまだ続く」
「意図を公に示そうではないか」｢皆に旅立つ事を告げねばならぬ
大地に触れ 万物の誕生に 微笑に立ち会うために
未だ紡がれぬ人生の書き下ろされる様を見届けるために！｣
あたりを満たし 空間に満ち満ちて
シー・ゴートの詩は丸屋根内にこだまする
かかるシー・ゴートの詩の如く 果てしなく彼は徘徊し続ける
平坦な灰色の街路を覆う日没の深紅のヴェール
そこでは一人の酔いどれが彼の尾の如く長々と管を巻き続けている
シー・ゴートは霧深き路上に佇み おのが杯を一口啜っては投げ棄てる
そこでは閉鎖した蛇輪にして止まる事なき列車が荷重に苛まれつつ走り続け
乗車する春の瞳をした舌足らずの生粋の若造達は棒Ｌ字に接吻をする
漂白剤と青汁と赤い血とが その制服に直きに染みを作ることだろう
忌々しい石頭 金ぴかに目の眩んだ将校および紳士達！

近況コーナーWhat's Newを見ると、近年の趣味は料理とガーデニングと俳句になっているようです。そういえば、ジョン・レノンも晩年に俳句やってたような……。
2012年5月13日には、イアン・マクドナルドといっしょにBS-TBS「Song ToSoul」出演した映像をアップロードしたと記されていました。公開にはご本人が関わってくださったのだということがわかって、ちょっと（かなり？）うれしく て、初期のクリムゾンを聴きなおしています。

第１期■ ピート（ピーター）・シンフィールド
『クリムゾン・キングの宮殿』(1969)から『アイランド』(1971)まで。
ＫＣへの参加は以前同じバンドを組んでいたイアン・マクドナルドの紹介。
グレッグ・レイクは『ポセイドン』(1970)の後、ELPでもピートの詩を歌うのですが、 叙情的なバラードっぽい曲は、70年代のレイクの高音の透明感のある声ともよく合ってたと思います。
ピーターは、音楽の前に文学に親しんでいた所為かロマンティックな詩も多いし、吟遊詩人っぽい感じ。
『アイランド』は、クリムゾン結成前にスペインやモロッコを放浪したころ訪れた、地中海の島々の印象をもとにしたそうですが、「フォーメンテラ・レディ」にはギリシャ神話のオデッセウスの航海もちょこっと登場します。
