I have two issues that I'm trying to work out.
1. Flashing the BIOS to version 2104 is proving unsuccessful. The board was shipped with 2002. I have downloaded the latest .cap file, renamed it to P9X79D.CAP, and copied it to a FAT32 formatted 2GB flash drive. I insert the drive in the correct white BIOS port and push the button. It flashes for a few seconds and then the button stays solid blue.
I reboot the PC and get back into the BIOS. It still says version 2001.
Any ideas on where I went wrong?
2. I'm trying to install Windows 8 x64 from a bootable flash drive. I've tested this flash drive on another system and the OS installs flawlessly. I've tried multiple USB ports on the back of the main board (2.0 and 3.0) and the flash drive's LED blinks, but when I'm in the BIOS, it's not detected. My SSD and my HDD detect fine.
I've read about UEFI and how it utilizes a GUID partition table. I'm guessing the flash drive is perhaps not formatted properly but I don't see how this affects if it's detected in the BIOS or not. My SSD still has Win 7 and Win 8 installed on it and I was using it on an old Toshiba laptop that is definitely not using UEFI. It is still detected in the UEFI BIOS.
I'd appreciate any help guys.
