The Differences of Schools between Japan and the U.S.

This is our Internet report page of research project in English 1D class.

I researched how school students in compulsory education move up to the next grade.
As you know, most Japanese students are promoted every year.
However, American schools have some conditions to promote.
One of that is an achievement test.
If you can not pass it, you sometimes repeat the same grade.
Actually, 10% of elementary school students in the U.S. have experienced it.

These differences are made by differences of the educational system.
In age-grade system, we regard the term of taking courses as important.
However, it is important not only to take but also to master courses in non-graded system.

I think one of the reasons why the U.S. uses the non-graded system is immigrants.
Some of them cannot speak English well and it makes the huge gap of academic ability among the same age students.
It is important to change educations depending on students’ academic ability.
Because it is possible to do it in the non-graded system, the U.S. uses its system.
