Candidates with benchmark disabilities are entitled to specific facilities in government exams. The facilities are real, but each must be requested in the right way and on time.
Who is covered
Persons with benchmark disabilities as defined in law, holding a disability certificate from a competent medical authority. Some facilities also extend to candidates with a writing limitation certified in the prescribed format.
Scribe
A scribe may be allowed for candidates who cannot write or type. The notification states whether the candidate brings their own scribe or the body provides one, and the scribe's maximum qualification.
Compensatory time
Extra time, commonly twenty minutes per hour of the exam, is given to eligible candidates whether or not they use a scribe, as the rules of the exam provide.
How to claim
Opt for the facility in the application form itself. Certificates and scribe declarations must be in the formats annexed to the notification.
On exam day
Carry the disability certificate, the scribe's ID and the signed declaration. Reach early, since verification takes time.
Other support
Accessible centres, ground-floor seating and screen magnification are provided on request in many exams.
Instructions for each exam come with the hall tickets listed on Govtpvt.
