Scott Iaconelli did not get the success or Top 12 complete he desired at the Bassmaster Top level Sequence competition on Pond St. Clair last Aug, but thanks to hairless areas, he captured 47 bodyweight of Smallmouth and delivered home $10,000.

No, Ike’s not making reference to a deficiency of locks on his 41-year-old go, but instead, locations on the end of the river in 10-15’ of h2o where the plants prevents increasing, and in convert results in a very fresh base.

“When you get to a lake like St. Clair, it’s so smooth for kilometers across the end, that you have to pay real near interest to any little modify on your sonar display,” said the 2006 Chevy Bassmaster Fisherman of the Season with goture .

“Sometimes that small modify is showed by just one feet of detail, and sometimes it’s showed where the marine plants increasing on the end prevents all the unexpected to type and advantage with a hairless identify of sand and rock,” describes Ike.

“The plants looks like a man's brief spikey locks increasing off the end of your sonar display,” smiles Ike. “Well, where the ‘hair’ prevents and the end goes hairless is where you want to start looking for Smallmouth.”

Iaconelli discovers almost all these hairless areas with his sonar, but also confesses that sometimes he can identify them with his sight because they look like 100 – 300’ long red gaps in comparison with the nearby h2o.

Once he or his transducer have the hairless areas situated, he hair combs them with four main attracts. Acknowledging, like most Bassmaster Top level Sequence fishermen with fishing tackle in the Aug 2013 competition, that a fall taken rig captured almost all his seafood.

“When the breeze blew, and the seafood were more competitive, I could capture them with a 3/16 oz. pipe on 6-pound fluorocarbon, or by decent a Rapala DT10 or DT 14,” said Ike. “But when the breeze ceased ruining, the outer lining area slicked-off, and the chew got difficult - that is when I had to use the either the conventional drop-shot, or what I contact the ‘Power Shot’ with a big ½ oz. bodyweight.”

The “Power Shot” is a drop-shot rig with extremely large elements. Instead of 6-pound range on a rotating baitcasting reel, Ike lumps up to 10-pound range on a baitcaster. Then, in place of a small connect and grace earthworms, Ike uses a Berkley smooth snazzy jerk attract on a large 4/0 earthworms connect. “I’m trying to get their interest with the Energy Shot rig,” says Ike. “It’s like tossing a big ¾ oz. soccer jig for largemouth – when that big bodyweight strikes the end it’s like a cannonball – it makes a interference that they have to come examine.”

No issue the attract, Ike pressured that none of the 47-pounds of Smallmouth he taken to the machines came from within the plants. “No issue which of the four attracts I used, I never captured right in the fresh mushrooms. I always captured right on the advantage of the marijuana range, or mostly, in the center of the hairless identify,” pressured Iaconelli.

This time, hairless really was wonderful. Fairly like a $10,000 competition income.
