Getting Prognosis on Battery Life

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist of the Dell Laptop Battery

Many laptops, pocket media players, mobile phones and some digital cameras use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that can be recharged a certain number of times before they wear out. Most companies define battery life by its number of “charge cycles,” which generally refers to the process of using up all the battery’s power and fully recharging it, not the number of times you happen to plug the battery in to a power source to recharge it.

For example, say you play your fully charged iPod for several hours and run the battery with battery such as Dell GX047 Battery , Dell H766N Battery , Dell HD438 Battery , Dell HF674 Battery , Dell J399N Battery , Dell J590M Battery , Dell JD634 Battery , Dell KD186 Battery , Dell KD476 Battery , Dell KG046 Battery , Dell KM958 Battery , Dell MM165 Battery down halfway. At night, you recharge it all the way, and the next day you run the battery down to half its power again before fully recharging it. Because you drained only half the juice twice, that counts as one charge cycle instead of two.

Batteries on different devices have their own estimated life spans based on a specific amount of charge cycles and use, and factors like very high or very low external temperature can also decrease battery life. You can usually find information in the technical specifications for the battery or device, either in its manual or on the manufacturer’s Web site.

Dell, for instance, keeps electronic copies of its product manuals online at support.dell.com. In the section describing its Latitude CPt C-Series laptop battery, Dell states that the battery has a life span of 500 full charge cycles or 2,000 partial charge cycles at normal room temperature.

If you click on the link on Apple’s Web site for more information about iPod batteries, you will find that a properly used iPod’s battery is intended to hold 80 percent of its original capacity by the time it gets to 400 charge cycles. The site also has general tips on battery care. Another useful site is BatteryUniversity.com.
