CSR today announced that its BlueCore5-Multimedia silicon is now shipping in volume. BlueCore5-Multimedia is most advanced silicon offering best in class audio for applications including high-end stereo and mono headsets and its audio functionality can also now be expanded through partnerships with third party software developers via the companys eXtension Programme.
The CSR BlueCore5-Multimedia chip sets a number of new industry benchmarks. Along with its predecessor, BlueCore3-Multimedia, it is the only Bluetooth IC in the market that integrates a digital signal processor (DSP). The powerful 64 MIPS DSP in BlueCore5-Multimedia allows customers to add audio or voice enhancement software to boost the performance and functionality of their end-designs. eXtension Partner Programme delivers a wide range of third party software plug-ins for the on-chip DSP, which further reduces design cycle time.
BlueCore5-Multimedia offers superior sound quality for headset applications with a best-in-class signal to noise ratio of -95dB. BlueCore5-MM also leads the industry for power consumption and radio design. The radio transmits at +6.5dBm and receives at -90dBm which eliminates interference when listening to music or taking a call.
