Muskogee native Charles Hamlet Faudree was remembered by friends and clients as a creative, talented interior designer with a fantastic sense of humor.

Faudree, a nationally known author of several books on interior design, died Nov. 27 at the age of 75. A memorial service for him will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Tulsa.

Muskogee resident Joel Cousins remembers Faudree well. Cousins met Faudree after he had retired as a salesman for Faroy Candles in Dallas and returned to Muskogee.

“Charles decorated our home on Rolling Oaks Road,” Cousins said. “It was fantastic. His homes were always a wonderful blend of comfortable furniture and an eclectic mix of antiques. He created a very relaxed, beautiful look. His sofas and chairs were always very comfortable.”

Cousins said working with Faudree was a pleasure.

“More important, Charles was wonderful to everyone,” Cousins said. “He was very hard working, and he had a fantastic sense of humor. He could have been a comedian. The best part of Charles was his generous, giving nature.”

Faudree designed the interiors for Judy Littrell’s Muskogee home and surprised her by staging her home during a weekend when she was away. Littrell moved to Tulsa in August to open a Thayer interior fabric store in Brookside with Darcy Blackerby, a former Faudree employee.

“Charles was one of the most talented, creative human beings I’ve ever known,” Littrell said. “He was a kind, compassionate, empathetic person. He told me six months ago how much he loved his Muskogee roots. He will be missed by everyone in the design community. He was a great man.”

Although Faudree began his career as an art teacher following his graduation from Northeastern State University, interior design had been a first love since he was 10. Then, his mother, Ruby Faudree, indulged him by letting him paint the front door of their home every year, any color he wanted. He played with pastels to jewel tones and later said: “I got that out of my system early on in my career. Now, I much prefer black.”

Painting that front door was the genesis of Faudree’s interest in fabrics, colors, textures, accessories and details, the subject of his fifth book. Faudree’s design philosophy was simple.

Faudree’s first interior design book, “French Country Signature,” was published by Gibbs-Smith Publishers. It is now in its ninth printing, and 60,000 copies have been sold. He co-authored five more books on this design style.

After several decades of teaching and working in the home accessories/furnishings industry, Faudree followed his passion for design, returned to Muskogee in 1977 and opened his first interior design and antiques studio. His first client was his sister, Francie Gillman.

He moved his studio to Tulsa in the early 1980s and was discovered by Nancy Ingram, then the editor of Oklahoma Home & Lifestyle magazine. He began to acquire a diverse clientele, from across the country and Europe. He also moved often, decorating each new home, selling it, then starting another home renovation.

“I’m like Elizabeth Taylor,” he said in speeches across the country. “I say each new home is my best and last.”

Faudree’s work was published in numerous national magazines, especially Traditional Home. The Traditional Home editor, Ann Omvig Maine, wrote the foreword for his first book.

“We know whenever we feature a house Charles has designed, we will receive many gleeful letters of thanks from our readers,” Maine wrote. “To say that Charles is a favorite of Traditional Home is a huge understatement.”

House Beautiful magazine named him one of America’s top 100 interior designers from 2002-2004.

In 2008, he created his first fabric line, working with Vervain, a Tulsa-based company. He also created a French Country Collection for Thayer Furniture Co. of Muskogee. Many of the fabrics in that collection were named for Faudree’s clients.

Services

A memorial service for Charles Hamlet Faudree will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute in Faudree’s memory to Tulsa CARES at www.tulsacares.org or Parish Church of St. Jerome, ECC at www.stjerometulsa.org. Services are being handled by Ninde Funeral & Cremation.

Neeras Design Studio marked Mentor’s Day on Monday at The Music Academy, with a performance by Bombay Sisters Sangeetha Kalanidhi C Saroja and Sangeetha Kalanidhi C Lalitha.

The studio, run by Sadhana Srinivasan, is courtesy the tremendous support of her grandparents — Neela Ramakrishnan, who was the president of Sri Jayendra Bhaktha Samajam and wife of CA Ramakrishnan, former chief Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu.

It is the acronym of their names (Neeras), and the space is a complete interior design studio located in Adyar. Commemorating the second anniversary of her grandmother, Sadhana says that the work she is involved in is a result of her grandmother’s encouragement.

“Mentor’s Day is what I have renamed the second anniversary of my grandmother. She was active in the arenas of spirituality and music. Neeras is a name in the memory of my grandparents. It is very unfortunate that they didn’t live to see it. They were instrumental in what it is today. My grandmother was the one who selected Inchbald school of Design in London and forced me to do a course. She was happy and proud when I achieved a distinction.”

Handling a range of profiles, Neeras has a clientele that includes residential spaces, offices, spas and beauty parlours. While Sadhana says that Chennai is still a conservative space for such a thriving business, there is ample space for the industry. “I do see a sense of conservatism during my work, but then the fact is interior designing should also be functional and sturdy. The emphasis is more on that and the work should last for a lifetime,” she tells us.

She adds that in fact, the scope is such that Neeras is chock-a-bloc with designing assignments that run well into midnight on an every day basis.

“Chennai has a lot of scope, so many avenues. It is very challenging but since this is a passion I love every bit of it,” the entrepreneur adds.

Adding a vast array of clientele in a short span, however, Sadhana is not content with her business spreading its wings in Chennai alone. She says, “I would like to see Neeras in many cities across India.” But, it is not just the design that is a passion for the interior designer and CEO. She adds that the music concert at the event is also an expression of her appreciation of arts.“When I was a kid, I learnt bharatanatyam and I am addicted to music both classical and Western music alike,” she says with a smile.

It sure is a great feeling to see the delight and joy on a child’s face when they open up a gift and see a brand new toy inside. Unfortunately, not every toy is safe, so shoppers should be diligent when shopping this holiday season, keeping their young gift recipient’s age in mind.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says last year alone, more than 250,000 children went to the ER with toy-related injuries, many of which could have been avoided. In fact, choking is still the leading cause of child deaths. BBB recommends selecting toys that are age appropriate for the child and ensure the gift meets safety standards by looking for the following:

Before making your purchase, check to see if there are there any sharp edges that can scratch or if there are any moving parts that can pinch small fingers.

Watch out for small removable parts that may pose a choking hazard such as the nose, eyes, and mouth on stuffed animals. These should be firmly attached. Magnets can also present a choking danger.

Toys that have long strings and cords are dangerous to infants and young children. They may cause strangulation if the cord becomes wrapped around the child’s neck. Avoid hanging toys with long strings, cords, loops or ribbons in cribs or playpens.

Read labels carefully. Make sure fabric products are flame resistant.

Always look for Underwriters Laboratory ( UL) listing when choosing electronic toys. Make sure flying objects have protective tips on them.

Store toys properly to avoid tripping. Lids on toy chests should stay raised to avoid suffocation.

After the holidays are over, check the toys periodically for rust or loose parts as well as general wear and tear on a toy after use. Things like leaking battery acid can cause fatal injuries. Broken pieces can cut or tear clothing if not monitored carefully. Cover speakers with tape on loud toys if a child’s ears are sensitive. If the toy seems loud to you, it is probably too loud for the child and could hurt their hearing. Beware of some children’s jewelry and cosmetics that still contain toxic chemicals and avoid toys made with PVC plastic because they could cause developmental hazards. Instead, choose unpainted wooden or cloth toys.

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/02/2013 -- Hair loss for both men and women is a frustrating, embarrassing issue, despite the array of home remedies for hair growth available. It can affect self confidence and self esteem, create anxiety and depression, and increase stress. And elevated stress accelerates hair loss. Reversing this pattern can restore thick hair, self confidence and self esteem, so let’s discover how to make hair grow faster and re-grow lost hair.

Pattern baldness is the result of genetics, unhealthy environmental conditions or hair loss after pregnancy. The right treatment can reverse these conditions and re-grow thick hair.

While surgical hair transplants provide instant gratification, it’s expensive and requires recovery time. And the overwhelming number of home remedies for hair growth products only adds to the confusion, with mixed reviews and dangerous side effects. Consequently, the home remedies for hair growth market lacks a clear leader, leaving those desperate to know how to make hair grow faster resigned to living with an embarrassing condition.

However, the science behind hair loss continually advances, and now a Norwegian biochemist appears to have developed an all-natural breakthrough product for those wanting to know how to make hair grow faster and re-grow lost hair. Initial studies reveal encouraging results in the vast majority of participants.

One clinical study, published in the Journal of International Medical Research, shows that 9 out of 10 study participants experienced more than 60% hair re-growth in as little as 2 weeks, with most seeing dramatic improvement in 8-12 weeks. These are encouraging results, especially considering the lack of adverse side effects.

When asked how to make hair grow faster and re-grow thick hair, product developer Dr. Erling Thom said it’s formulated with clinically-proven, all-natural ingredients, and has shown in extensive clinical studies to rapidly re-grow hair. In an industry that lacks definitive answers, this may be a game-changer in the home remedies for hair growth market.

For those frustrated with finding a solution for how to make hair grow faster or hair loss after pregnancy, the clinical results are impressive. To re-grow healthy, thick hair, take a look at this breakthrough product today.

Hair loss, most probably, is the common problem which a person can experience at any stage of his or her life. With so many hair solution products in the market, hair restoration or transplants have long been used to reduce baldness. While they cost thousands of dollars to completely restore the hairs, they often result in nasty side effects such as scarring and inflammation. Har Vokse is one of the latest innovations in the natural hair restoration treatments which is manufactured by leading scientists and backed by numerous clinical studies. It has shown outstanding results without side effects among 90% of its users.

With the rising demand for hair loss solution, the market is overflowing with different types of products that offer a natural hair regrowth. Normally, these products work on a temporary basis that encourages hair regrowth without actually restoring the hair follicle. With a lot of hair loss products, it is important to choose the right one that is clinically approved.
The hair regrowth benefits of this formula are clearly documented in various research journals. It has been tried and tested in extensive clinical trials and shown to produce outstanding results. More importantly, none of the side effect was observed. With the suggested dosage of one pill daily and two times application of hair spray, one can experience a significant decrease in hair fall and an increase in hair regrowth up to a significant level.
