流祖飯篠長威斎家直先生は、飯篠家の子孫に主を持たず、天地を敬い、人間として穏やかな一生を送ることを求めたようです。
主を持てば、主命により戦場に出て敵を打なければなりません。自分も殺されるリスクがあります。自分にも妻、子供、家族がいるように、敵にも妻、子供、家族がおります。敵を打っても、自分が殺されても悲しむ者が出ます。そして、打たれた者の家族の敵意を生み、また、戦さが起こります。敵意の連鎖を立たなければ平和は実現できません。
長威斎先生は、このことを知って、子孫に求めたのです。応仁の乱をはじめ、戦さが絶えず、敵を殺して勢力を広げることが常識であった室町時代にあって、まったく次元の違う価値観です。ましてや、武術に長けた武人が到達する境地とは思えません。
長威斎先生は、宇宙の片隅にあって、森羅万象を畏敬し、大自然ともに人間として穏やかに生きることの大切さを教えているように思えます。
The founder asked his descendants to live peacefully as a human being without having his landlords while respecting nature.
His descendants would have needed to kill his enemies according to an order from their landlords if they had got them. There are risk that they are killed. Enemies have wife, children, and family as well as the descendants. There are people who feel so sad, no matter who is killed. There will be another war generated by hostility of the family whose members were killed. We never create peace without eliminating chains of the hostility.
The founder knew it and asked his descendants to do it. This is totally a different sense of value, while expanding their territories by killing enemies was very common at Muromachi era of 620 years ago when there were so many wars such as civil war of Onin, etc. That is beyond my ability to understand because the founder was the strongest warrior who had an outstanding martial art.
The founder teaches us that we should live peacefully as a human being together with nature at the edge of the universe.
