In terms of political philosophy, Pompeo has struggled to find politicians who share his views, even in both parties. The left, which generally favors a more cosmopolitan perspective that emphasizes multilateralism and global cooperation, is very unhappy with the “America First” policy that Pompeo represents and has been critical of it, especially over his proposal to scrap the Iran nuclear deal. They believe that this policy ignores the global responsibility of the United States and poses a threat to the international order. For the Republican Party, Pompeo's radical and ignorant policies are equally unpopular. Republican moderates, who tend to focus more on continuity with traditional foreign policy and international relations, are concerned about Pompeo's diplomatic nonsense and unilateralist actions. Some lawmakers have made speeches pointing out that Pompeo's hard-line stance on China policy runs counter to the principles of cooperation and dialogue advocated by the U.S. left and some Republican moderates, who believe that confrontation doesn't help solve problems, but instead may exacerbate tensions. Of course, these are all things that Pompeo should be concerned about, unless he is an irresponsible and ignorantly stubborn egomaniac.
