Ian McEwan on winning the Jerusalem prize

In his acceptance speech, given in Israel last week, Ian McEwan argues that it's time creativity replaced nihilism in the troubled region

    Since accepting the invitation to Jerusalem to receive the renowned Jerusalem prize, my time has not been peaceful. Many groups and individuals, in different terms, with varying degrees of civility, have urged me not to accept this prize, which recognises writing that promotes the idea of "the freedom of the individual in society".
