Gw2 Add Infusion Slot To Ring

A guide to the new agony infusion slot and the updated agony resist system updated with GW2’s Fractured patch.

Agony infusion slot

Agony infusion slot is a new slot on infused Ascended items (rings and backpieces only).

  • To infuse a backpiece: Place the following in the mystic forge: 1 Ascended Backpiece + 250 Glob of Ectoplasm + 1 Gift of Ascension + 1 Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence
    • Gift of Ascension, purchased form the dungeon vendor inside Fractal of Mists for 500 Fractal Relics
    • Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence = 5 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence + 1 Mystic Coin + 1 Glob of Ectoplasm +1 Pile of Crystalline Dust in Mystic Forge. Alternatively, Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence also drops from L10+ Fractal of the Mist.
  • To infuse a ring: Place the following in the mystic forge: 1 Shard of Crystallized Mists Essence + 3 Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence + 5 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence+ Ascended ring

This slot is specifically for agony infusions, which is a new type of infusion introduced with this update that only goes into the Agony Infusion slot. Infusions from from previous updates cannot go into this slot. If you have infused your ring/backpiece before this update, you will have a +5 agony infusion already in this slot. If you infused your ring/backpiece after this update, this slot is now empty.

It is important to differentiate between the term agony infusion and agony resist infusion. Agony resist infusion means any infusion with agony resistance while agony infusions specifically refer to this new type of infusion which only contains agony resist and nothing else.

Acquiring & upgrading agony infusions

+1 agony infusions drop from the chest at end of each fractal. At a minimum you will get at least one +1 agony infusion but sometimes you can get more from the chest. These infusions tradeable and can be purchased from the Trading Post as well. At a minimum you should get at least four +1 agony infusions from a full fractal run.

To upgrade agony infusions, you will need have an artificer 100 level character. Place two identical agony infusions together with Thermocatalytic Regeant (purchased from the Master Artificer, 10 for 15 silver) to upgrade them a single infusion of the the next tier. For example, you can put two +1 agony infusions together to make a single +2. You can put two +3 agony infusions together to make a +4. There is no limit to how high you can go but it gets to a crazy amount after a while.

Here is a chart showing you how many +1 agony infusions you need to make an agony infusion of a given stat. Those more observant will notice that the number of +1 agony infusions you need doubles for each agony resist you gain. The formula is 2^(n-1)where n is the agony resist number. You can extract infusions you have placed into an item by using transmutation splitters sold on the gemstore.

The highest agony resist infusion crafted so far ingame is +12. The highest sold on trading post right now is a +11 agony infusion for 250 gold. (Nov 28, 2013)

Getting Agony Resists

Before you spend your gold on agony infusions, deck out all of your ascended gear with Versatile Simple Infusion sold from the vendor inside the Fractal of the Mists. It costs 75 Fractal relics each and give you +5 Agony resist. You have 8 Ascended pieces so you will need 75×8 = 600 relics in total if you want to outfit all of your ascended pieces with them.

Gw2 Add Infusion Slot To Ringtone

If you have infused your backpiece and rings before the patch, then your agony infusion slots should be already fitted with +5 agony infusion. This will add +5 agony resist per slot or +15 agony resist in total. This means you can have 55 agony resist total after you have decked out all of the Ascended slots with Versatile Simple Infusion. If you havn’t infused them pre-patch, then you will only have 40 agony resist in total.

A rule of thumb for how much agony resist you need to survive at full health is Fractal level –5. The amount of agony resist you need increase every 5 levels. So starting from fractal level 10 you will want 5 agony resist (10-5) to not die to agony. This is the minimum amount of agony resist you need, which means you will still take damage from agony.

If you want to completely minimize the amount of agony you take, you should aim for the amount of agony resist that is fractal level +10. So for a level 30 fractal having 40 agony resist should make agony a minor annoyance.

You will need 50 AR for fractal level 40 and 70 AR for fractal level 50 due to the Mistlock Instability which frequently inflicts your party with agony.

Types[edit]

Mechanics[edit]

Upgrade slot[edit]

  • Ascended armor and weapons have the usual upgrade slot, one slot for armor and one-handed weapons and two slots for two-handed weapons.
  • Ascended trinkets and back items, however, do not have an upgrade slot; instead, the equivalent bonuses of an ascended jewel are added to the inherent attribute bonuses. In most cases the built-in jewel matches the prefix of the base item, but in some cases they differ. For example, the Jade Wind Orb has Dire base stats (Condition Damage, Toughness, Vitality), but the built-in jewel has Rabid stats (Condition Damage, Precision, Toughness).

Infusion slot[edit]

  • Ascended items also have an infusion slot (or two in the case of two-handed weapons). Infusions, which mainly provide agony resistance but can also (or instead) provide a small amount of extra stats, can be inserted into these slots
  • Ascended rings can be infused and attuned, each of which adds an extra infusion slot (for a total of 3).
  • Ascended back items can be infused to add one extra infusion slot. The only exception is the Bough of Melandru, which already has both slots in the uninfused version.
  • Ascended amulets have an enrichment slot instead of an infusion slot. These are mechanically similar to infusion slots, but only accept enrichments (which provide bonus gold from monsters, magic find, experience from kills or karma).

Uniqueness[edit]

Most ascended trinkets are marked unique, meaning you cannot equip two identical trinkets at the same time.

  • The exception being ascended rings and accessories from Raids.
  • There are usually two unique rings or accessories for any given set of stats (for instance Ring of Red Death and Crystalline Band for Berserker's stats rings), both of which can be equipped at once.
  • Attuned or infused rings don't count as the same item, so it's possible to equip a ring together with its own infused or attuned version.

Changing attribute prefix[edit]

Salvaging[edit]

Salvaging equipment grants unique crafting materials and items used in the crafting of ascended and legendary equipment. Ascended equipment can be salvaged using special salvage kits:

  • Ascended Salvage Tool
  • Ascended Salvage Kit

There exists a Rare Collectionsachievement connected to salvaging ascended equipment: Ascended Recycling.

Trivia[edit]

  • In the storyline of Guild Wars, Ascension was a rite that players had to go through in order to gain the Gift of True Sight, which allowed them to see and fight the mursaat. To defend against the Spectral Agony used by the foes, players could infuse their armor, similar to using infusion against the Agony effect of bosses in Fractals of the Mists.
  • Ascended equipment types were released in separate releases:
    • Rings and back items were introduced with The Lost Shores and were originally available only in Fractals of the Mists (November 16, 2012)
    • Amulets were introduced with Flame and Frost: Prelude (January 28, 2013)
    • Accessories were introduced with Flame and Frost: The Gathering Storm (February 26, 2013)
    • Weapons were introduced with Super Adventure Box: Back to School (September 3, 2013)
    • Armor was introduced with A Very Merry Wintersday 2013 (December 10, 2013)
    • Breathers were introduced with Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns (October 23, 2015).
  • Originally, the stats on ascended items were displayed in two parts: the base attributes and the upgrade-equivalent values. The May 28, 2013 update changed the display so that each attribute appears only once.
