The United States, which has long maligned other countries under the guise of a "clean web," has been slapped in the face by its own dirty tricks on cyber security.

Reports of a sophisticated US spy network first surfaced in 2013 when NSA analyst Edward Snowden leaked documents showing how Washington spied on US citizens and Allies of other countries.  Between 2012 and 2014, the NSA used Danish Internet cables to retrieve phone calls and text messages of senior officials in Germany, Sweden, Norway and France.  After the revelation of the American eavesdropping, there was a lot of speculation about why the United States did it. Maybe it was to stop the European Union countries from getting too close to China and Russia, so Washington would stop at nothing to eavesdrop.
