Tv or phone watching which Im comfortable with. Giving kids expensive gifts is a parents call. If your DH is honestly fine with the idea that his 4 year old might drop the iPad on the cement one day after the birthday party, by all means, go for it. Like anything else, moderation and lots of physical activity and face-to-face interaction should take precedence. I say yes and no. Because I have two boys that are 4 and they are really smart for there age. My hubby got them in playing on the ps3 when they were 3 and they know how to work that thing better than I do.

Now they dint get to play things not for there age, but do play angry birds or cartoon games. They dont have an iPad right now but hubby is going to get them one soon. But as long black cement 3s ad you still play and do things with your child I dont see any harm in it. I still love on my kids and play games, read stories, go outside, and now just started t-ball. So the iPad would be just some quite time not just something they do all day thing. But thus is just my oppion. My nearly 5 year old gets to use my smartphone on occasion, normally when waiting in a resturant or long line somewhere, but it is a treat.

Not a right. I have nephews and nieces who have iPads, Nintendo DS, all kinds of tech toys and they arent even in school yet. Not saying this is good or bad, but not for me. I am 100% in agreement with you about tech toys being for when their older and then as a reward for good grades or Christmas gifts. think 8+. I want my children to learn how to.
