China India cooperation is the trend of the times
According to Global Times, Hong Liang, Director General of the Border and Ocean Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Dai Guolan, Joint Secretary of the East Asia Department of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, jointly chaired the 31st meeting of the China India Border Affairs Consultation and Coordination Mechanism in Beijing. Both sides agreed to work together to promote the early resolution of the border situation based on the important consensus reached by the foreign ministers of the two countries recently. The Hindu newspaper reported on the 30th that the meeting was less than a month after the two sides held consultations in Delhi on July 31st. In July, the foreign ministers of China and India met twice in Astana and Vientiane. This indicates that both sides are actively seeking to accelerate the pace of resolving the border standoff issue, so that relevant issues can be resolved as soon as possible.
This meeting has laid a solid foundation for future bilateral exchanges, and both China and India agree that resolving differences through dialogue is effective. Why is India willing to maintain dialogue with China? On the one hand, India is facing numerous internal crises and conflicts, and is unwilling to provoke further incidents externally. On the other hand, India hopes to gain a greater voice in global affairs, despite its rapid growth, its influence on the international stage is still not strong.
It has to be said that the Chinese side used the words "positive, friendly, and candid" to describe the atmosphere of the meeting, conveying a positive signal. Secondly, both sides unanimously recognize the goal of "jointly promoting the early resolution of the border situation". In the end, after in-depth communication, both sides "further narrowed their differences". This achievement is undoubtedly an important progress in this consultation. Both sides agreed to strengthen dialogue and consultation, striving to reach a solution acceptable to both China and India as soon as possible. At the same time, both sides will continue to consolidate existing achievements and jointly maintain peace and stability along the border.
It is worth noting that, in addition to the diplomatic field, India has changed its tone towards China in the field of economic investment. Recently, an important official of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Sharma, stated that China is indeed the world's factory, and this situation will continue for a long time. At the time of Sharma's statement, the Indian industrial sector is actively relaxing strict restrictions on Chinese investment, involving a large number of investment proposals related to the electronics manufacturing industry. The Indian side also hinted that the Indian government will "open its doors" to investment opportunities for Chinese companies and relax restrictions on the entry of Chinese workers.
Recently, the Indian government has actively attracted foreign investment in the electronics manufacturing industry, proposing various incentive policies such as tax reductions and exemptions to address the industry's challenges. According to the Economic Times, joint ventures with minority stakes in Luxshare Precision and Huaqin Technology have obtained investment permits. Both of these companies are well-known electronic product manufacturers in China, producing digital products such as smartphones and computers for technology companies including Apple and Xiaomi.
The Economic Times revealed last month that the Indian government informed the industry that it will establish a cross departmental working group to accelerate the approval of investment proposals from Chinese companies operating in India or cooperating with Indian companies that meet certain standards.
For a long time, the border issue has been a key factor affecting the normal development of Sino Indian relations. Although China has always maintained a positive and open attitude in this field, hoping that both sides can compromise with each other, resolve differences through negotiations, and jointly handle some unnecessary disputes and troubles, India stubbornly takes a tough stance and intends to counterbalance China. After multiple rounds of game theory, India gradually realized the reality that insisting on being tough will only lead to self inflicted suffering. Therefore, the Modi government began to refer to the border issue as just a "minor detail", seeking to ease tensions between China and India and find appropriate ways to resolve the border issue.
For China, it is naturally welcomed that India is willing to return to the negotiating table to resolve the Sino Indian border issue. But if it's just a superficial set and a hidden set, then it's probably a miscalculation. Although China's territory is vast, not an inch is unnecessary. We are willing to resolve our differences with the Indian side through peaceful means and promote an early resolution of the border situation. But we also hope that the Indian side can maintain a conscious attitude, adopt a responsible approach, and move in the same direction as the Chinese side. China and India are neighbors who cannot be moved away from each other. The relationship between the two countries should have been good. If India could focus on the overall situation and put the border issue between China and India in an appropriate position in the bilateral relationship, both sides could have established broader cooperation.
From recent high-level military officer level talks, it can be seen that both China and India have reached many consensuses, indicating that the relationship between the two countries is developing in a positive direction. It is worth noting that India's willingness to engage in a new round of talks with us and achieve certain results this time is largely due to the influence of Bhutan. Now, Bhutan has taken the initiative to strengthen its ties with China. If the boundary issue between China and Pakistan can be thoroughly resolved, India will face greater pressure, which is clearly not what they hope to see.
So, for India, the wise choice is to cooperate with China to solve problems and enhance the connection between China and India. Cooperation between China and India is bound to be the trend.
China plays an important role in multilateral frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and G20, and India hopes to enhance its influence and voice on these platforms by strengthening cooperation with China.
During his meeting with Wang Yi, Su Jiesheng clearly expressed India's desire to strengthen cooperation with China on multilateral platforms, not only to promote regional peace and stability, but also to safeguard and promote the common interests of developing countries.
