第５回 学習会報告（１月８日）

みなさんこんにちは。管理人です。

２０１１年初めて（通算第５回）の学習会報告をさせていただきます。

今回の報告は結構遅くなってしまいました～

いまウェブサイトの更新作業をしておりまして、そちらについつい時間を、、と言い訳、、、。

今年初回ということもあったのか、５０人を超える方から申し込みがありましたが、キャンセルもあり

最終的には４４名の方がご参加されました

今回のマテリアル（勉強会の題材）作成担当はKさんです。

Kさんはいま大学で哲学のご研究をされていて、ご専門にも

関係がある、「生命倫理学」についてのマテリアルです。

ディスカッションが始まる前に哲学のことがあまりわからない我々にもスゴクわかりやすい言葉

で内容について説明していただき、スムーズにディスカッションに入ることができました

それに初心者用のトピックも別に作成していただき

お好きなほうを選んでいただくこともできたので、

参加しやすかったという声もお伺いしました。

新人の５名の方々にもご参加いただき、盛り上がりました。正月後すぐの勉強会だったので

それぞれのお国のお土産もたくさんお持ちいただき、休憩時間にみんなでいただきました。

テーマは「生命倫理学」についてです。そういうと難しい話に聞こえますが、テレビなどでも
よく話題にあがっている「バイオ医学やバイオ工学を用いたアスリートの肉体増強はどこまで許されるのか。また、本当の意味での健康とは何なのか」ということをメインテーマとしてご提案していただいています。
Kさんは大学院で哲学をご研究されていて、ご専門とも係る倫理を扱った今回の勉強会Ａテーブルの
チェアパーソンも務めていただきます。Ａテーブルにご参加をご希望の方は前もってこちらまでご連絡ください。

みなさま、初詣にはもう行かれましたか？それともこれからですか？
私は初詣に行く時はいつもおみくじを引くのですが、
それにちなんで、今回のFirst halfは「運」をテーマにさせていただきます。

(ただし正義論ではなく、生命倫理学ですが。)

David Edmonds: The science of genetics is advancing faster than our moral intuitions can cope. No longer are so-called ‘Designer Babies’ just a figment of the imagination, restricted to the realm of sci-fi movies. The implications are huge – and not just for babies and reproduction. We can modify our genetic make-up as adults too.

Take sport; in theory we can now manipulate genes to make athletes run faster, jump higher, throw further. Does that mean sport will evolve into a form of competition between quasi-robots? And if so, would it matter?

The distinguished and genetically unmodified Harvard philosopher, Michael Sandel, believes that we should be extremely cautious in our attempts to shape and master nature, and indeed to master our shape.

　

Nigel Warburton: Michael Sandel, welcome to Ethics Bites.

　

Michael Sandel: Thanks, it’s good to be with you.

　

Nigel: The topic we want to focus on today is genetic enhancement, specifically enhancement in the area of sport. I wonder if we can just sketch the kind of enhancements that are possible now and will be in the near future using genetic techniques.

　

Michael: As far as sports are concerned we hear a lot about blood doping and the use of steroids for performance enhancement in athletes and in the not distant future it will be possible to use various forms of gene therapy, for example, to enhance muscle and that I think is what in the area of sport will raise the most difficult questions.

　

Nigel: I wonder if you can give us some general pointers as to why you’re against enhancement.

　

Michael: I should first clarify that I’m in favour of the use of biotechnology for medical purposes for the sake of health. So, for example vaccination enhances the immune system, vaccination for small pox, for example. I’m all for that, because it promotes health. So any use of new genetic technologies to repair injury or to cure or prevent disease I’m all in favour of.

What I’ve criticised is the use of bio-medical technologies not for medical purposes but for non-medical enhancements. For performance enhancement in athletes, to try to select the genetic traits of children, to try to enhance memory, to enhance height, let’s say among children who may be perfectly healthy but want to be taller, or their parents want them to be taller, sex selection, choosing a boy rather than a girl, these are the kinds of non-medical uses of genetic engineering that I’ve criticised.

　

Nigel: Quite central to your discussion here is the difference between a cure for something which is a deficiency and an enhancement that takes us beyond what’s normal.

　

Michael: Yes, and I’ll quickly acknowledge that there can be hard cases, right at the boundary. What about braces for orthodontia(歯列矯正), for example? Is that related to health or is it merely cosmetic; is it just to improve one’s bite or is it to fit a certain look that’s become widespread in our society. That would be an example of a hard case. But the underlying difference between a cure and a non-medical enhancement requires a normative idea of health and of human flourishing. Health is about restoring or preserving normal human faculties which are a constitutive ingredient but a very limited part of the good life.

第４回 学習会報告（１２月１１日）

みなさんこんにちは～　管理人です。

１２月１１日に行われた第４回目の学習会報告をさせていただきますね

今回は淀屋橋にある６２名用の大きい会場を使用させてもらいました。

この日は近くで「OSAKA光のルネサンス2010」が行われていて

予期せずとてもたくさんの観覧者が会場のまわりで風景を楽しんでおられました！

大きい会場だったので、ゆったり使用できると思ったのですが、みんなの熱がこもった

ディスカッションで部屋が狭く感じましたね～

今回もこれまでに一番多くの方にご参加いただいて４２人の方にご参加いただきました

そのあとに行われた懇親会も３６人と過去最多

しかも３０人以上が２３時まで残ってくださって、こっちのほうが驚きかなｗｗ

こちらは上級テーブルの様子です。メンバー自身の体験を交えて就職活動における

ランキングの活用度や、何にポイントを置いて就職活動を行っていたか意見交換中。

Students want jobs at ANA, traders, Shiseido

As student job seekers struggle amid the worst employment situation in years, All Nippon Airways topped their list of sought-after employers for a second year, while troubled Japan Airlines fell to 52nd place, according to a recent survey conducted by a major job-hunting Web site.

"Students seem to have been influenced by the recent news (of JAL's pending bankruptcy)," said Misako Kanamori, a Rakuten Inc. spokeswoman.

The survey was conducted on student job hunters registered at the online shopping mall's job information Web site.

"In the categories of work environment, product image and potential for the company's development, JAL was more than 10 points behind ANA," Kanamori said, noting JAL was in the top 10 in last year's survey, while ANA was first.

According to Kanamori, the two airlines have consistently registered high rankings over the years, particularly among females, because of their global image and the overseas travel opportunities they provide.

The airlines' continued popularity belies a somewhat harsher reality: since the mid-1990s, airlines have been hiring cabin attendants on contracts rather than as permanent full-time employees, creating a less stable career than other employers.

"Many students still have the old image and feel that the airline sector is very good. Some are not really aware of the employment conditions or pay rate, and even if they were, some may not really know the difference between full-time and contractual," Kanamori said.

The survey, conducted between last October and December, asked 5,703 student job hunters due to graduate in 2011 and registered on Minna no Shushoku Katsudo Nikki (Everyone's Job-Hunting Diary) to choose five employers they most want to work for out of a list of 600. For each chosen firm they were asked to say whether the main attraction was in the job, employment conditions, recruiting methods, the contribution they could make to society as an employee, or the company itself.

Everyone's Job-Hunting Diary is a Web site where student job seekers can exchange information. With notice boards for more than 20,000 companies and 6.83 million postings, it is one of the biggest of its kind in Japan.

ANA was followed in the rankings by trading houses Itochu Co. and Mitsui & Co., while cosmetics maker Shiseido Co. ranked fourth and Oriental Land Co., operator of the Disney theme parks, came in fifth.

The rate at which university students are receiving informal employment promises to start work as soon as they graduate, called "naitei," has been falling over the last three years, according to the government. The rate was 73.1 percent last month, 7.4 points lower than the same time last year for the biggest drop since the poll started in 1996, the government said.

A surprising survey finding was the high ratings banks received, according to Kanamori.

Despite the difficulties and bad public image financial institutions have faced since the global financial crisis hit, students have retained faith and confidence in large domestic banks, she said.

Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. placed sixth and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Co. 10th. Although Mizuho Financial Group Inc. ranked 39th, it topped the students' assessment of which company would provide employees with the most useful skills, followed by Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and Sumitomo Mitsui.

"When we surveyed students in November 2008, asking them whether the state of the economy has affected their job hunting, 70 (percent) to 80 percent said yes. But it seems that they don't necessarily equate the financial crisis with banks. In fact they feel the large banks will provide stability and useful skills," Kanamori said.

No foreign banks made it into the top 100.

Meanwhile, food makers and producers of other basic consumer goods have proved popular this year, as job seekers yearn for stable employment in a turbulent labor market.

"This year food makers are particularly strong. They are known to be strong in recessions, because everyone has to eat," Kanamori said.

Beverage producer Suntory Holdings Ltd. placed seventh, while confectioner Meiji Seika Kaisha Ltd. ranked 11th and seasonings maker Ajinomoto Co. 16th.

The popularity of Shiseido reflected the job seekers' belief that sales of cosmetics are also relatively unaffected by recession.

Trading houses such as Itochu and Mitsui ranked high again this year due to the opportunities to travel abroad and the prospect of stable employment, Kanamori said.

第３回 学習会報告

みなさんこんにちは！管理人です

久しぶりの書き込みになります。

昨日11/13に行われた第三回の学習会報告をさせていただきますね！

今回も初利用となる天満の会場を使用させていただきました！

なかなか面白い会場でしたよね～

非常に大きな椅子で椅子だけは国際会議にも使用できそうｗｗ

今回は当日のキャンセルもありましたが、最終的には

なんと前回よりも多い４０名の参加者でした！

申し込みの時点でもっと多くの

お申込みをいただいていたので、通常の会議室に加えて

和室を2部屋予約してたんですよ～！

これが意外に好評で、静かな環境で、座布団の上に座ると、

どういうわけか背筋がピンと伸びて、議論も非常に盛り上がりました！

全体的にも場所を広く使えたので、快適でしたね～

羽田の国際化と関西3空港の活用についての議論だったのですが

英語という共通点で集まったみなさんなので、空の玄関口に関する

トピックに関して皆さん非常によく予習されていて、各テーブル

盛り上がっていたようです。

学習会後の懇親会も３３名の参加で、座敷貸切の大所帯！

次の日のこともあるので、早めに切り上げる立ったはずが

なぜかいつもの終電間際の23時30分まで多くの方が

残っておられました～

The opening of Tokyo's Haneda airport to more international flights,
starting Thursday, makes a lot of sense for travelers.
The time required to travel to Haneda from central Tokyo is short and
the airport is connected to many other Japanese cities.
The new international terminal, open 24 hours a day, will also have
facilities likely to attract not only travelers but also visitors from
the city.
Following are some basic facts about Haneda's new international terminal:
From central Tokyo and Yokohama, how long will it take to get to the
new international terminal?
From Shinagawa it will take 13 minutes and cost \400, while from
Yokohama it will take 26 minutes and cost \440 on the Keikyu Line.
Luggage carts are available on Keikyu station platforms, and can be
taken to and from the airport terminal, according to Keikyu's
operator, Keihin Electric Express Railway Co.
From Hamamatsucho Station in Tokyo, it will take 13 minutes by
monorail and cost \470. Trains to and from Hamamatsucho depart every
three to six minutes during the daytime.
How many international cities can be reached from Haneda?
Haneda is set to be connected to 18 cities overseas, according to the
new terminal's operator, Tokyo International Air Terminal Corp. They
are Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, Paris, London,
Honolulu, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, Vancouver,
Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Busan. Twenty
airlines are scheduled to fly to Haneda, including Japan Airlines, All
Nippon Airways, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines and Delta Air Lines.
Asia-bound flights will depart between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. There will
be 17 daily flights from Thursday to Oct. 30, and the number will jump
to 32 flights starting Oct. 31.
Flights bound for Europe, the U.S. and some Asian cities are allotted
departure times from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. After Oct. 31, 20 flights will
depart daily and 10 other flights are planned to depart weekly.
What will the facilities at the new terminal feature?
On the fourth floor, directly above the departure lobby, there is a
shopping area re-creating old Tokyo streets. There are Japanese
restaurants and shops selling "tenugui" towels, "furoshiki" wrapping
cloths and confectionaries, among other items, along Edo Koji alley.
The fifth floor, Tokyo Pop Town, features examples of Japanese pop
culture such as "anime." Shops sell Hello Kitty, Doraemon and other
character merchandise. The floor also has a slot car circuit to play
with, a planetarium cafe and bar, as well as an observation deck
outside.
The Sky Lounge, set up beyond the customs gates, offers showers, a
rest area and a business center. Duty-free and souvenir shops are also
in this area.
What kind of language services are available?
Many signs are in four languages: Japanese, English, Chinese and
Korean. Information desks will have clerks who speak those languages,
the terminal operator says.
Meanwhile, the Keikyu Line will have an information counter on the
arrival lobby floor. Information on transportation, sightseeing,
hotels and restaurants are available in the four languages.
East Japan Railway Co. said it will open a similar information office
at the Tokyo Monorail station in the new terminal.
Are there any disadvantages to departing from Haneda rather than Narita?
Airfares are higher for some of the flights from Haneda. Compared with
Narita departures, All Nippon Airways said it will charge around
\10,000 more for Bangkok and Singapore flights, \5,000 to \10,000 more
for Beijing and Shanghai flights, and \10,000 to \12,000 more for Los
Angeles and Honolulu flights.
The airline cited better transportation access from Tokyo and Yokohama
and thus high demand among business travelers as a major reason for
the higher fares.
JAL meanwhile said it will "basically" set the same airfares at Haneda
and Narita. However, it added that airfares may change due to
vacancies on each flight.
Nighttime departures for Europe and the U.S. may also prove
inconvenient for travelers.
How long does it take to transfer from domestic to international
flights and vice versa?
JAL says the transfer takes 60 minutes from domestic to international
flights and 70 minutes the other way around.
ANA adds 10 minutes to each of those transfer times.
Free shuttle buses, running about every six minutes, will connect the
new international terminal with domestic terminals No. 1 and No. 2.
Free tickets on the Keikyu Line and monorail will be available to
passengers connecting between international and domestic flights at
Haneda, the terminal operator said.
What kind of transportation and hotel services are available for
travelers with late-night or early morning flights?
Keihin Kyuko buses will depart from Yokohama, Shinagawa, Omori, and
Kamata stations to the new international terminal.
From Haneda, destinations include Tokyo, Kita-Senju, Shibuya,
Yokohama, Shin-Yokohama, Sagami-Ono, Machida, Chiba-Chuo,
Nishi-Funabashi and Funabashi stations.
Airport Transport Service Co. will meanwhile operate buses bound for
Shinjuku, Ikebukuro and other destinations in the Tokyo metropolitan
area.
For travelers looking to get some shut-eye, the Haneda Excel Hotel
Tokyu will offer short stays from 5 p.m. to midnight and from 6 a.m.
to noon, charging \11,000 for a single room and \14,000 for a twin.
The Prince hotels in Tokyo's Takanawa and Shinagawa area will offer
several packages. Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa and Grand Prince Hotel
New Takanawa will offer \10,000 packages for two to stay from midnight
to 5 a.m. and from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Some other packages include sauna
and Jacuzzi services, the hotel chain said.

ＢＢＱ→カツサンド？！

本日予定されていたＢＢＱなのですが、

前日時点での雨天確率が５０％を超えていたため、中止とさせていただきました、、、。

ん～、非常に残念です。

気温もちょうどいい時期だし、

楽しい一日になると思っていたのにな～

中止にはなってしまったのですが、

今回のＢＢＱにどんなお肉を用意しようか

スタッフと考えてました。

スーパーで買ってもいいかな、とおもってたのですが、

家の近くの「弘豚社」というお肉屋さんを思い出したので

ウェブで検索してみると、どうやらそこで売ってるカツサンド

がとても人気とのこと。

散歩も兼ねてお店にいってみると

結構はやってました。

どんどん売れるのか、カツサンドは山積みで

３切れ入って４２０円。ビーフもあって、こちらは

７００円以上してました。

この辺の地名をとった京町堀コロッケ５０円も一緒に買って

近くの靭公園でピクニック気分でランチしてきました～

どうです、この肉の厚さ

ここ２，３日苦しめられている口内炎がなければ

もっと楽しめたのに～

公式ウェブサイト開設のお知らせ

みなさ～ん！見てください、これ

前からスタッフメンバーが作成進行してくれていた

公式ウェブサイト が出来上がりました～！

そのスタッフは最近とても仕事が忙しいのですが、

その合間を縫って、とってもいいもの作ってくれました

まだサークルの名前も決まってないうちからこのサイト作成に

取り掛かってくれていたのですが、それにもかかわらず、ヤフーの

検索では結構上位に来てたようです。

今後ともウェブサイトとブログの両方で、いろんな情報発信していきますので

今後ともごひいきに～
