Lions' Schwartz on comebacks
Green Bay We just got off the conference call with Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz. Here are a few highlights:
On if last year 73 win was a springboard to their success since: was the first to 4 wins in a row so I guess you could classify it that way. But I think that even the 10 losses that we had to that point, there were a lot of things that this team game confidence from including going up to Lambeau and losing by 2. We had the ball around midfield late in that game and weren able to get another first down to get into fieldgoal range. But I think the team got some confidence from that. We opened in Chicago and lost on the Calvin Johnson Rule. We had some close calls that season. Even though we weren winning them, there was some confidence from the team knowing that we could play with teams. the three comebacks this year: can get hot as anybody in the league. We didn play well in the first quarter offensively against Carolina. We went interception, interception, fumble on our first 3 series. And then we had 9 series after that and scored 7 touchdowns. That pretty hot. We scored 45 straight points against Denver, scored 42 straight against Kansas City. We can go on some runs and get hot. It not just offense but the defense starts getting some stops. The turnovers started coming defensively last week. We played Minnesota and Dallas and of a sudden there are defensive stops. Those go hand in hand. The team has confidence. They been in those situations before. It a good hardworking team. They got some football character when it comes to being resilient."
On how you defend Aaron Rodgers: obviously the trigger man on the offense. But that a very, very talented offense with a lot of playmakers. The thing that makes them so good and makes Aaron Rodgers so good is it not just about him. He gets the ball to all the playmakers. He completes balls to 5 different wide receivers, 3 different tight ends and 3 different running backs. It spreads you thin defensively. The guy an accurate passer. He gets the ball to a lot of different guys that can make a play. And he also very, very mobile. A lot of people underestimate or don play him on a twiceayear basis and don realize how good he is scrambling and buying time." cheap jerseys
On if there could be too much emotion in this game: you play every game as hard as you possibly can. Our guys play with some passion, play with emotion. But you certainly don worry about putting too much in one game. When you play 16 games a year over 17 weeks, every game is important. On if this game, though, is a little different against undefeated Packers: little bit. It a Thursday, it a short week, it Thanksgiving, there a tremendous amount of history and tradition that goes with the game. I don think it has anything to do with the Packers being undefeated. I think it has to do with the Packers being in first place of the NFC North. I think that has a lot more to do with how important this game is. The fact that we play them twice over the last 6 games. There are a lot of things that make this important."
