・The history of Japanese computer games

1912   A chess machine was developed as the world’s first computer game.


1972   the world’s first computer game company “Atari company” was founded

“Nintendo” released “Color TV Game 15”.

 

1983   “Nintendo” released “Family Computer”.


 

1985   Family Computer spread rapidly. For example, “Super Mario Brothers”, “Dragon Quest”, and “Final Fantasy”, and more. These games are still popular.

 

1989   “Nintendo” released “GAMEBOY”.

 

1990   “Nintendo” released “SUPER Famicom”. It based on “Family Computer”. In this game, “MARIO KART” recorded maximum sales.

 

1994   This year “PlayStation”, “SEGA SATURN”, etc. were released by “SONY”, “SEGA”, etc. “Tokimeki Memorial” which is the origin of love experiencing game was released, and it is processed by “PlayStation” and “SEGA SATURN”.

 

1996   “GAMEBOY pocket” and “NINTENDO64” which are hardware were released by “Nintendo”. In addition, “POCKET MONSTERS” and “BIO HAZARD” which are game software were released by “Nintendo”.

 

       

 

1997   In Japan the first online game service was started.

 

2001   Many game devices were released. For example, “X BOX”, “NINTENDO GAMECUBE”, “GAMEBOY ADVANCE”, etc. In addition, the first charging system was started from this year.

 

2004   As you know, “NINTENDO DS” and “PlayStation Portable” were released.

   

 

2006   “NINTENDO Wii” was released.

 

2008   “Apple Store” was started. This is the origin of the smartphone game. And the popularity  of smartphone game has continued to until today.

 

2011   “NINTENDO 3DS” was released.

 

2016   “PlayStation4” and “PlayStation VR” were released by “SONY”.

 

・Result of interview

   We did an interview people from children under 10 years old to adults over 40 years old about how long do you play video games or portable of a day or a week and what device do you most play and so on, and now we received 85 responses. As a result, we understood several trends and outbreaks.

 

 

<What device are you playing most?>

   As expected by us, the most popular gaming device was a smartphone. Recently, many people around us play games with smart phone in anywhere such as trains and schools. For example, “Pokémon GO” triggered a social phenomenon that many related projects were expanded, and furthermore, it become a cause of crime.

   Among the people most using smartphone as gaming device, lots of people playing puzzle games.

 

 

<How many days do you play computer games in a week?>

   Many people answered play computer games almost every day. Smartphone games and portable games can be enjoyed even with a little free time. And some recent online games have benefits from playing every day as “Login Bonus”.

 

<How long do you play computer games in a day?>

   Many people answered play computer games about one hour in a day, but some people answered play more than four hours. People who play computer games more than four hours in a day said playing games as long as they got bored, while they are at home or awake, and someone answered he playing 24 hours as well

 

<When did you play computer game for the first time?>

   Most people are playing games from elementary school lower grade. But overall, there is a variation in the age that people start to play computer games by individuals. This is because we interviewed people of different ages from children to adult, so there are people who surrounded by computer games since they were born and who were not already popularized.

 

Conclusion

   For these reasons, we know that game technology is developed and games are essential for almost people. Especially, smartphone games are developed rapidly. So they will take place of other game devices increasingly.
