Growing up in Kingsbridge just a few miles away, Bolberry Down on the South West Coast in England was always one of my favourite dog-walking haunts. Wild and windy in the winter months but stunningly beautiful when the sun made an appearance, I never bored of the walk from Bolberry to Soar Mill Cove. The highland cattle that can now be seen there are a relatively new addition; they have been grazed on the cliffs for the past few years and help to control the vegetation. These handsome beasts, which were originally native to Scotland, are allowed to wander freely. They are very docile creatures and seem unperturbed by the walkers who can’t help but stop to take photos of them.

I have to admit that after many years away, I was surprised to find highland cattle on the cliffs of South Devon. They don’t seem out of place in any way, however, and are just one more reason to go up to Bolberry Down.
