Hello dear friends!
I am aware that in Japan, it is already Sunday.
Here in Edinburgh, however, it is still Saturday.
Saturday, 7th of May, 2022.
It is Candy's birthday!
If Candy was a real person, she would have celebrated 123 years of life
123 years...
even if we approach the maximum limit of human lifespan, it is not impossible. Perhaps somewhere on Earth, there is someone who is 123 years old, but we do not know it. The oldest person ever recorded was Jeanne Calment who was born in 1875 and died in 1997.
She lived for 122 years and 164 days!
It is not impossible.
I never forgotten Candy. She came to my life, one afternoon when the first episode of the anime Candy Candy aired in Greece, in 1984 (I think). I was 14 years old.
In two years time, if I am still blessed with health, I will be celebrating 40 years of knowing Candy.
But I have to confess. When I wa young, watching the anime, I loved Candy with all my heart. Even when she appeared so selfless and innocent and she never fought against Eliza and Neal. She never fought against Susanna.
But when fate brought me back to the Candy Candy fandom, in 2006, I did not like Candy so much.
I wanted her to be more selfish. To fight for her happiness.
When we grow in adults, we realise that no one is perfect. Everyone of us have their weaknesses. Everyone is trying to find their own happiness.
Candy appeared to be very unrealistic. Almost like a saint.
Indeed, I loved Terry more because he was never perfect. Even from when I remembered him, as a young girl, watching him on TV, falling in love with Candy. Candy falling in love with Terry.
CCFS however, aligned Candy with reality.
Candy became more realistic. For the first time, I read about her anger for Susanna. Walking with determination to the hospital, to tell Susanna to leave Terry alone.
A heart that loves does not remain pure... Candy knows about that very well.
Could it be that Candy perhaps met with Terry? Went to see him perform as Hamlet, on stage? Breaking her promise to Susanna...
Who knows... this is into the sphere of imagination. But we never know what life will bring us around the corner.
The final novel made me love Candy again. This time as a grown woman.
We all look for happiness. Candy looked for her happiness too.
In the end, she has found her happiness.
Happiness is to live with the person we love the most.
Happy Birthday dearest Candy!!!
We love you a lot too!
