Drew Miller NHL Red WingsPhoto by Resolute (Own work) [CC-BY-SA-3.0], via Wikimedia CommonsAs per the EIHL website, Glasgow’s Braehead Clan have signed NHL forward Drew Miller to a contract for the duration of the NHL Lockout. This is the second bonafide NHL player to sign in the EIHL this season, following Carolina’s Anthony Stewart signing with the Nottingham Panthers last month. The press release is here. I would like to point out one niggling mistake: Miller won the cup with Anaheim in 2007, not 2008, but that’s neither here nor there.Miller is far from being a “star NHLer” as the release states, but (a) the EIHL will obviously trumpet the fact that they have secured an NHL player, and so they should, and (b) Miller is a pretty capable player in the best league in the world, and a very good player in the AHL, so he almost certainly will be a star here in Britain. He’s coming off a career year in Detroit, putting away 14 goals and 25 points. Any guy who can stick with Detroit must be alright, although it’s worth noting that he faced below average competition, with a big zone-start push, and didn’t come out on top in shot differentials. However, he did get a fair whack of PK time and put up some decent scoring numbers for a guy who played less than 13 minutes per night, so he’s not bad in the NHL. Not great, but not bad.
