If you've watched Netflix's Selling Sunset, a real estate reality show that stars twin brokers Jason and Brett Oppenheim and their coterie of silver-tongued agents, then you may have wondered: Is the brokerage really as successful as it appears? The answer is yes. The Oppenheim Group specializes in luxury properties across Southern California, and its president, Jason, has closed more than $3 billion in sales to date, per the firm's website. It's also the company behind the hit series and its spin-off Selling the OC, as well as other popular shows on Bravo and HGTV.
The real-life brothers have built empires in both the worlds of real estate and reality television. Their firm's clients include celebrities, athletes, and other high-profile names, including basketball star Kris Humphries, actresses Chlo Grace Moretz, Dakota Johnson, and Taye Diggs, and actor Orlando Bloom. The brokerage has offices in West Hollywood and Newport Beach, and boasts a slew of multimillion-dollar listings. And though their specific net worths aren't known, the brothers are clearly making a good living off of their savvy business — and the drama that ensues between them.
One of the most dramatic moments in season three of Selling Sunset saw the siblings clash over a multi-million-dollar sale involving a contemporary LA home, with Jason ultimately pulling rank and dismissing Brett as the buyer's agent. Despite that tumult, the Oppenheim Group says it has remained successful, with the brothers bringing in more than $417 million in sales last year alone. Their active listing portfolio sits at an impressive $300 million.
And the brokerage isn't slowing down, either. It opened two new offices in the past few years, in Cabo San Lucas and Newport Beach, and has plans to open a fourth, this time in San Diego. It also recently expanded its Sunset Boulevard office by moving into a larger space that will house a filming studio for the upcoming sixth season of Selling Sunset, which is set to debut this fall.
The new location is a bit more swanky than the old spot, complete with a movie screen for casting sessions. But it still offers the same services, such as a team of interior designers who can help with design and renovation projects. The new space also features a kitchen designed for entertaining, with a Calacatta Viola marble bar, sleek black pool table and shuffleboard table from 11 Ravens that are "basically pieces of art," according to Oppenheim, as well as a lounge area.
As for the future of the real estate market, Jason notes that fewer buyers are coming out to view homes, and that the "balance of power" has shifted toward sellers in recent months. However, he says there's still plenty of interest to go around.
