FORBES より

"American International Group has some explaining to do. The insurance company /that needed a whole lot of help from the government to make up for its bad decisions/ doesn't seem to think it should be cutting back on discretionary spending.

American International Group has come under increased scrutiny /after it was revealed /on Monday at a hearing of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform/ that the company paid $440,000 for an event held at a posh California spa (that was listed as an executive retreat). The the little getaway for over 100 people / that included golf outings and lavish hotel accommodations came / while the government was setting the company up with $85.0 billion to keep it from filing for bankruptcy protection. "

AIGってAmerican International Group なんですね。

めっちゃふてぶてしい名前ですね笑。

"TOKYO (Reuters) - Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group , Japan's top bank, said it has no plans to back out of its $9 billion investment in Morgan Stanley, although the global market sell-off has sent shares of the U.S. firm sharply lower.

The U.S. Federal Reserve has granted regulatory approval to Mitsubishi UFJ's bid to take one fifth of the U.S. bank but that failed to calm jittery investors who pushed Morgan Stanley's shares down 25 percent on Tuesday.

The deal is expected to close after a five-day post-approval waiting period, Morgan Stanley has said.

"There is no truth to the rumours that we will pull out of our agreement with Morgan Stanley," a spokesman for the Japanese bank said.”

"An American and two Japanese physicists on Tuesday won the Nobel Prize in Physics for their work exploring the hidden symmetries between elementary particles that are the deepest constituents of nature."

"Ever since Galileo, physicists have been guided in their quest for the ultimate laws of nature by the search for symmetries, or properties of nature that appear the same under different circumstances.

However, in the 1960s, Dr. Nambu, who was born in Tokyo in 1921, suggested that some symmetries in the laws of nature might be hidden or “broken” in actual practice.

A pencil standing on its end, for example, is symmetrical but unstable and will wind up on the table pointing in only one direction or the other. The principle is now embedded in all of modern particle physics."
