The next day, we went out again, still enthusiastic and ready to do some wheeling and dealing. We decided on lunch first. I couldn't do business on an empty stomach!! We found a nice Chinese restaurant. Appetite satisfied, we drove to a few dealers along the way, to see what was on offer. We looked at some second hand cars that were quite good; a Lancer and a Toyota Carola; just looking though and for interests sake. The next stop was another Mitsubishi dealer. There were plenty of salesmen, keen to sell!! We looked at the new Lancer and asked for a test drive. It drove well, the steering heavier than the Mirage. It certainly felt more powerful but somehow it didn't fit right with my personality. I didn't feel comfortable with the spoiler on the back and the low seats. No it really wasn't me, but Kathy liked it so I thought I would get the dealers best price and tell Lindsay. I negotiated with them and they gave me a price $2500 under the quoted price. Interesting. Later that day I phoned Lindsay to tell him the price that the dealer had given me, which in reality may have been a mirage!!
Now I had to make up my mind on what car I wanted. The Lancer was out. The toyota Carola and Nissan Pulsar were crossed off too. Over the following week I decided that I would test drive the Mirage once more to see how the 1.2 litre engine handled the highway, overtaking and hills.
To be continued .....
