I was taken into Nicks office on my return to the car yard. He had already been primed on my dissatisfaction with being tricked, but he felt that it was more an issue of communication. I reinforced the fact that the hatch did not come in silver and that all Mitsubishi car salesmen are aware that the hatch does not come in silver. I repeated what I had already said a number of times before, " When I came to look at the car I was expecting to see a sedan." On hearing this and knowing that I could buy a hatch cheaper somewhere else and in my choice of colour, he said he wanted my business. He asked what I preferred, a hatch or a sedan. I wasn't sure but was leaning toward the hatch because of the happy feelings it gave me. I rang Mika while Nick was concurring with his boss, to tell her the deal. Out of the blue she asked, "Does it have tinted windows?"
When Nick came back I said I wanted the hatch in pop green for $13500 the same as the City dealer. He went away and returned shortly after and declared that it would cost them money to bring a car in and what would it take to sell me the blue car? Sitting back down at his desk I said "$12000." Shaking his head he said"No, theres no way!". I then said "Meet me half way. $13000 or $13500, tinted windows (Mika had sown the seed), floor mats and petrol." More consultation with the boss and the air was full of relieve and happiness on his return. The deal was done and they had sold me a car with all the extras.
Not only that, later, I negotiated Mag wheels so the total cost of the car was $14200, $600 less than Ian's price. I was very, very happy. I picked up the car the following day. Toby was with me and was impressed to see my little car sitting in the show room ready for me to drive away. We took photos, one of me jumping for joy next to the car. Graham, Lindsay and Nigel were tickled pink to see the photos and to hear the last chapter of my story; especially the bit about the mag wheels!!
