■ 長寿に良いといわれている生薬を科学的に裏づけ

テロメアが短くなるのを遅くするもの、つまり寿命を延ばすと
思われるものが、生薬の中にあることがわかっています。
名前は、astragalus。
正確には、Astragalus Membranaceus（キバナオウギ） と
呼ばれる高山植物の根から作った生薬です。
傷の治療薬に使われていたもので、
精力剤としてもしられています。
この生薬から２つの有効成分が見つかっています。
cycloastragenols と astragalosides です。
この２成分は、ともに、テロメアを伸ばす酵素、
テロメアーゼの生産を活性化します。
Ｇｅｒｏｎ製薬品会社は、この有効成分を
医薬品候補物質（ＴＡ－６５）として開発している。
人をつかった、科学的な研究によって、
事実、テロメアを伸ばすことが確認され、
加えて以下の改善をすることがわかりました。
皮膚
血管
神経
肺機能
視力
免疫力
現在、高濃度に濃縮したものは、大変高額なものでありますが、
他にもテロメアを伸ばす成分がみつかって
いることから、値段は低下することが予想されている。

We already know of one way that shortening of the telomeres can be slowed with the help of a special Chinese herb.
The herb is called astragalus. In traditional Chinese medicine this herb is used to treat several conditions and to accelerate the healing of wounds. Scientists have been able to extract 2 powerful molecules from the astragalus root -- cycloastragenols and astragalosides that are now known to activate the production of the enzyme telomerase, has the ability to stimulate the repair an lengthening of telomeres. Telomerase is an enzyme naturally present in reproductive cells which lengthens the telomeres. Reproductive cells need it in order to impart normal length to the telomeres of offspring, so that they will have the potential for a normal lifespan. Depending on the ages of the parents, the telomeres of their other cells may be shortened but this shortening must not affect the offspring. Therefore the enzyme telomerase is present in the reproductive cells of even the oldest of aging parents. Fortunately for those of us who wish to live a longer life, it was recently discovered that astragalus can activate telomerase in the other cells of the ageing body where it is not normally found! When telomerase is introduced to ageing cells of the body it It gives them the ability to self replicate for greater number of repetitions. Therefore when telomerase stimulates lengthening of the telomeres in the cells everywhere in our bodies, it can extend the life of all the organs and even impart a more youthful appearance.
The biopharmaceutical company that made the discovery of how to isolate cycloastragenols and astragalosides, quickly set out to develop this effective anti-aging product. They called it TA-65.
The name of this company is the Geron Corporation, which offers a patented form of the highly-concentrated extract They have made it available only through certain carefully selected physicians.
This natural therapy was tested on human subjects, in double-blind, placebo-controlled studies with the following results:
- Telomeres lengthened.
- More elastic and smoother skin.
- Improved Arterial Elasticity.
- Improved eyesight.
