70年代にデビューしたバンド「アメリカ」
と言えば、ロンドンで結成された
アメリカ人３人組による
フォークロックバンド。
ビルボード・シングルチャートNo.1になった
「A Horse With No Name
～名前のない馬」や
「金色の髪の少女｣が有名だが、
1970年代後半は、３人組から、
デュオとなり、
レコード会社を移籍、長い低迷時期。
この曲は、そんな彼らが
メジャーレーベルから復活を果たした
起死回生の１曲で、実に６年ぶりに
ヒットチャートを賑わし、
５週連続の８位と大健闘した。
ちなみに、
５週連続の８位というのも珍しいのだが、
この時期のヒットチャートの上位は
そうそうたるナンバーばかり。

曲は、オリジナルではなく、
ラス・バラードという
シンガーソングライターのペンによるもの。
彼は、レインボウのヒット曲
「I Surrender」や
「Since You Be Gone」
サンタナや、ロジャー・ダルトリーなどに、
ハードな中に哀愁をおびたメロディーが
魅力的な楽曲を提供している。
アルバムには、
同じくラス・バラードのペンによる
「Jody」
「Inspector Miles」
「Right Before Your Eyes」
などのバラードナンバーも
い～い味を出している。
