いるかの次はクジラについて記事を出そうと思っていたのですが、いるかの続報を目にしたので、またまたいるかについてです。
先日BNAで ”Mexico to Seek WTO Panel Ruling On U.S. Dolphin Labeling for Tuna”
というニュースがありました。
Mexico will request the establishment of a World Trade Organization dispute panel to rule whether U.S. "dolphin safe" labeling requirements for tuna unfairly block Mexican tuna exports to the U.S. market.
それから、WTOの前身の GATTは、1991年と1994年にメキシコとEUに有利な裁定をしているんですね。 ”a U.S. ban on yellowfin tuna imports harvested with purse-seine nets was not justified under GATT rules allowing trade restrictions necessary to protect animals or preserve natural resources.”
また、この記事によると、1998年にはアメリカが海がめを保護していない国からのえびの輸入を禁止したのに対して、WTOがアメリカ法は ”illegal because it was applied in a manner which constituted arbitrary and unjustifiable discrimination among members of the WTO.”と裁定したんだそうです。
日本の捕鯨もWTOで裁定してもらえればいいかもしれません。（もちろん、貿易に関することではないのでありえませんが。）
