"In my 21 years of classroom experience, one of the biggest complaints I get from kids is that the “Book is too hard!” There are many purposes for reading, but one of the most important purposes is to understand what is on the page. When choosing a book, give a quick test…have them read the first page out loud. If they struggle with 5 words…the book is too hard. Find something easier. You will be amazed at the difference this can make in their motivation! After all, the goal here is to get them to read and not quit!
