It has been hard to put my favourite UK artists into a list of 10 because I have so many favourite!
I am sure that I will remember another band later on and wish I had put it in my list but here is what I have so far.
These bands are the most listened to on my mp3 player, I listen to them all on a regular basis.
You probably already know most of these bands, I am not sure which are popular abroad.
10: Madness
I love Madness, they make happy music which makes your heart light and puts a smile on your face. I spent a lot of my teenage years listening to them.

9: Radiohead
Radiohead make such strange and beautiful music, I cannot imagine my life without them. You probably already know them in Japan because they are so amazing!

8: The Buzzcocks
I love the Buzzcocks so much! A lot of their music has been copied and covered since their original release. I think the most recognisable track would be 'Ever fallen in love' but my personal favourite is 'What do I get' which you can see in the video link below.

8 1/2: Alternative TV (ATV)
Ok, I am cheating with the top 10 and adding in ATV as a joint number 8 as I cannot live without this band! They make such amazing music, so energetic and also humorous at times. My favourite track has got to be 'Life' I love this song so much I listen to it on a daily basis and I never get bored of it.

7: The Specials
I am a big fan of 2 tone music and ska and this band for me represents the first time I heard it. I really love the track 'Message to you Rudy' this track is one of my favourites when the sun comes out and I strut around town to it playing loudly in my ears.

6: Portishead
This band make some really laid back tunes, they usually fill you with a mixture of emotions which can be hard to describe without sounding liker a mentalist so I will just add the video links so you can see for yourself.

5: Tinie Tempah
I do love a bit of youth culture every now and then XD
Mostly I listen to more alternative music but Tinie Tempah is pretty amazing.

4: The Clash
There is not a lot to say about the Clash, you probably know it all already.
They started to go downhill by the mid 80's due to drugs and differences etc, but they still made some ok music. There best album by far though was London Calling. This is probably what they are best known for throughout the world.

3: Sex Pistols
Arguably the best punk band of all time, I listen to the Sex Pistols constantly, I love most of their tracks up to the transformation into the Professionals. I am not such a huge fan of the Professionals except for the track 'Baby, I don't care' which spent a long time as my most played track. The Sex Pistols though hold a special place in my heart as I spent many hours on them as a teenager and I still do today. The tracks are mostly still relevant to the state of the UK as it stands. I used to be madly in love with Sid which was rather strange as he was dead by then and he was also a smack head which is so not cool but I didn't seem to mind at the time, I started playing Bass guitar to emulate him but I wasn't very good but then neither was he so it's all good XD
I know that they had a huge following in Japan and I hope that you enjoy their music!

2: Muse
Muse are so friggin' amazing I could die happily listening to their music!
Matthew Bellamy is a genius of epic proportions.
The music of Muse takes you to faraway places in your mind, it is so deeply enriching it is hard to put into words how I feel about this band.
There are so many levels to their music and every time you hear it you notice something new. My favourite track of Muse is definitely 'Map of the Problematique' this song sends me to a darkly clouded heaven, it is so dark but so beautiful!

1: The Smiths
The Smiths are my all time favourite band in the entire universe.
I love every single track they have ever made which is very rare with most bands. Morrissey is a lyrical genius, his lyrics are deeply moving at times but also can be rather comical. I like his sense of humour. I have been listening to the Smiths for many years now and I have never grown tired of them. My favourite tracks change every so often but I love them all equally.
It is hard to pick one favourite track, it is even hard to select only a few for the video links but I will try my best.
